Katie Bushong Shrum
Shrum, Katie Virginia Bushong (1888-1931)
Portrait of Katie Virginia (Bushong) Shrum as a young woman.
Katie was the daughter of Aaron Allen (1863-1935) and Rebecca (Bauserman) (1858-1934) Bushong. In the 1900 census, she and her parents lived at her mother’s family’s home in the Davis District of Shenandoah County.
She married Tasker Frederick Shrum (1889 - 1970) in October 1910 and by the 1920 census, the couple had two daughters: Dorothy Rebecca Shrum (born in 1913) and Ruth Virginia Shrum (born in 1919). Katie’s husband worked as a farmhand. He was the son of Joseph Alton (1853-1912) and Amanda Jane (Hollar) (1855-1933) Shrum.
Katie lived in Toms Brook when she died. The family was listed there in the 1940 census as well. She was buried in Harrisville, located in the northern part of Shenandoah County.

Photograph of Gary Alan and Lanny Harold Bauserman as young children. “Bauserman/Plaughter” is written on the glass plate of this image.
They were the sons of Harold Spiker (1908-1967) and Ruth Althea (Plaugher) (1908-1998) Bauserman from Maurertown. The 1950 census found the family living in the Johnston District where the boys’ father farmed.
Gary married 21-year old Mary Catherine Sibert in 1966. She was the daughter of Edward Franklin and Helen Irene (Bauserman) Sibert. When they married, Gary worked as a “spreader” for the Aileen Corporation while Mary Catherine was a “knitter”. By the time Gary died, he was a “Product Development Engineer” for a textile company.
Lanny Harold Bauserman was a graduate of Strasburg High School. He married Wanda Jean (Holler) (1943-2014) in 1963. They had two daughters together, Lisa and April. Lanny worked at Safeway for 32 years before he retired.

Elizabeth A. (Sheetz) Bauserman
Bauserman, Elizabeth Ann Sheetz (1917-1984)
Portrait of Elizabeth Ann (Sheetz) Bauserman as a young woman.
Elizabeth grew up on Spring Street in Woodstock and was the oldest child of Edgar Simon (1892-1964) and Pearl Mabel (Ruby) (1892-1981) Sheetz. She had two younger brothers, Hallie and Edgar “Eddie”. Her father worked for the railroad in 1920, then became a presser with his own shop (1930), farmed in 1940, and finally, worked as a government mechanic before he retired.
In 1940, Elizabeth had completed a year of college and worked as a stenographer in a law office. She was still living with her family in Woodstock.
Sometime after July 1956, she married a divorced lawyer with two children, John Vawter Bauserman (1908-1963), who had graduated from the College of William and Mary and obtained his law degree from the University of Virginia. His parents were Joseph Morgan (1865-1934) and Mary Elliott (Van Horn) (1868-1946) Bauserman.
John worked as the commissioner of accounts for Shenandoah County from 1934 until his death. Elizabeth and John are both buried together in Massanutten Cemetery.

Dorothy Bauserman Finks

Portrait of Dorothy Bauserman Finks as a young woman.
Dorothy was born in Toms Brook, daughter of Russell P. and Beulah (Miller) Bauserman. She graduated from Toms Brook High School in 1944. This photograph was most likely taken while she was enrolled in high school.
She married Louis Jasper Finks. They owned and operated Finks Jewelry Store in Woodstock Virginia. The couple had four children, Patricia F., Toni K., Richard L., and Lisa F. Finks.
Dorothy was also involved in several community organizations including the Toms Brook United Methodist Church and the Woodstock Chapter #93 of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was Past Worthy Matron, District Lecturer, Grand Ruth for the state of Virginia and Grand Representative to Wisconsin.
Dorothy died in 2019.

Charlotte Bauserman Helsley
Helsley, Charlotte Frances Bauserman (1922-1997)
Portrait of Charlotte Bauserman Helsley with short curly hair.
Charlotte was the daughter of George Washington and Martha Belle (Compton) Bauserman. The 1930 census found her living in Clarke County with her parents and two sisters, Helen and Martha. Her father worked in an orchard there.
In 1948, when she married Elmer Arthur Helsley, Jr. (1918-1989), she lived in Woodstock and worked as a Secretary at the American Viscose Plant (the plant later became Avtex Fibers) in Front Royal. Her husband was a farmer, son of Elmer A. and Mattie (Hockman) Helsley. It appears they spent the rest of their lives in Woodstock and had at least two daughters: Sandra Fay Helsey and Sherry Norma Helsley.

On the left is Reverend Jacob A. McInturff, a Methodist minister who served in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Ohio. On the right is his first wife, Laura A. (Bauserman) McInturff.
After Laura's death, these two plates were combined.
Reverend McInturff eventually moved on to marry Frankie Ethel Kyger after his first wife died.

James was the son of James Russell Bauserman and Flora Bradley Bauserman. He worked as a painter his entire life.
James was originally married to Susie Jones Bauserman who died in 1923 leaving behind two daughters. His second wife was Frances Hoshour. They had one son, Paul Bauserman.
