Laura lived in the Pleasant Valley community of Shenandoah County which is approximately 2 miles west of Mt. Jackson Virginia. She married Joseph Funkhouser on March 26, 1896 and had 5 children. He was a farmer, and Laura was listed as a housewife in 1930. She is buried at Cedar Grove Church.
This portrait photograph was taken by William Dean, a photographer in Harrisonburg Virginia. While it is undated, it was located in a album with other images dated 1892 so it likely dates to that period.

The class was taught by Agnes Fravel in a building on what is commonly called "Lawyer's Row" beside the historic courthouse in Woodstock. This photograph was taken in front of that building.
Identified in the photograph is Josephine Miller (Lynn) on the back row, seventh from left. The image survived as part of her collection.
Agnes Fravel is also identified on the right side of the photograph. Daisy Belle Parker (later Racey) is pictured in the third row, second from the left. All other subjects are unidentified.
