Fraktur commemorating the birth of Elizabeth Rinker of Shenandoah County.
The Fraktur is dated 1835 and reads:
"To This Couple Wilhelm Rinker and His Wife Sarah Whose Maiden Name is Painter (Bender) Was Born Into This World A Daughter, Year of the Lord 1835 The Second Day of September.
This Daughter Was Born in Shenandoah County in the State of Virginia in North America, Was Baptized by Reverend George Stalin and Was Given the Name of Elizabeth. The Witness Were Her Parents."
J.W. Uebenfelett is identified as the creator.
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rinker was born September 2 1835 near Edinburg Virginia. She married Harrison Lindamood and died June 23 1888. She is buried in the Hawkinstown community.

Published in the Shenandoah Herald on April 10, 1969 as part of their "Country Kitchens" series.
May Whitaker Rinker was born May 1, 1901 in Shenandoah County. She married Garnett L. Rinker Sr. They had two children Garnett Rinker Jr. and James Rinker. Garnett Rinker Jr. was killed in action on June 6, 1944 while serving with the US Army during the Normandy Invasion.
Mary lived on a farm near Woodstock for her entire life. At one time she was known for her butter from five Guernseys cows. She would churn 28 pounds of butter at a time and sell it in one pound blocks.
Later in her life she established extensive flower gardens growing peonies, begonias, dahlias, and amaryllis which decorated her home and church. She also sold some of her flowers as a way to support her garden.
Mary died on September 8 1982 and is buried in Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock.

Naomi Zeigler Ralph

Naomi was born in Maurertown, the daughter of Wilson Ira and Virginia (Rinker) Zeigler. She was was a 1939 graduate of Woodstock High School. She married Walter L. Ralph (1921-1988) in 1946 and the couple shared 42 years together before he died.
When she died, she was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and Day Care Provider with 47 years of service. She left behind two daughters, Rebecca L. Shumate and Wanda A. Pantall.
Both Naomi and Walter are buried in Walters Cemetery in Carmel.

Robert was the son of George W. and Rebecca (Evans) McClanahan. He was a farmer and died suddenly of a heart attack when he was 80 years old.
Minnie Bell Rinker was the daughter of William and Pollyann (Burner) Rinker. She married Robert McClanahan in January 1909 and, together, they had three children: George A., Harry L., and Ruth P. McClanahan.

In addition to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Mr. Rinker worked for Sealtest Foods for 20 years.
Mrs. Rinker worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years and as a bus driver for Shenandoah County schools for 26 years. She was the creator and designer of the Toms Brook town seal and the first female honorary fire member of the Toms Brook Volunteer Fire Department.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Rinker were members of the Toms Brook Methodist Church, the 4-H All Star Chapter, and served on the Toms Brook Town Council.
