On February 8, 1836, a motion was filed in court by William and Susan Miller; Benjamin and Matilda Brown; and John K. Hoffman, Jr., to have the enslaved people of John K. Hoffman, Sr. (deceased) be sold. Charles was one of the people to be sold.
