Title

Carroll Burner and Unidentified Man

Subject

Burner, Carroll Calvin (1927-2013)
Sailors - United States - Virginia - Shenandoah County

Description

Photograph of Carroll C. Burner, left, wearing a U.S. Navy Aviation Machinist Mate's uniform, and seated beside an unidentified man.

Carroll Burner served in the US Marine Corps and in the United States Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate.

He was the son of Azariah “Asa” Weston (1896-1987) and Effie A. (Nicholson) (1901-1985) Burner. When he registered for the WWII draft, he worked for Frank Dinges in his Orchard in Edinburg.

In January 1949 Carroll married Anna Catherine Barb in Hagerstown, Maryland. In the 1950 census, Carroll was listed as “Separated” and was living with his family on West Spring Street in Woodstock. The couple must have resolved their issues because they were living together in Basye, in 1952, when their toddler, Deborah Louise, died of Leukemia. In 1964, when they divorced, both were living in Mt. Jackson.

Carroll was a member of The Lord's Chapel Church in Edinburg and worked a self-employed painter for many years.
