Description

Portrait of Fred Beidler as a teenager and standing beside a bench in the studio.

Fred was born in St. Luke, son of Dr. C.C. Beidler, local veterinary surgeon, and Clara Baker Beidler. He was a lifetime member of the Woodstock Christian Church where he served on the board as deacon, elder, trustee and on the Parsonage Building Committee. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1932 and attended Massanutten Military Academy where he completed a business course. Fred worked at Wender's Department Store for 12 years.

In 1945, with the help of his family, Fred started Beidler's Furniture, a G.E. major appliance and furniture store, which he operated successfully for 28 years.

Fred married Diane Peer Beidler, in June 1963.

In 1973, Fred and his wife retired and sold the business to the Cline family who still operate under the name, Beidler's Furniture Store.

Fred also enjoyed buying older houses and converting them into two and three bedroom apartment houses. He also built several duplex houses and a four unit brick apartment house on US 11 S in Woodstock. He was formerly on the board of First Virginia Bank.
