Fred was born in St. Luke, son of Dr. C.C. Beidler, local veterinary surgeon, and Clara Baker Beidler. He was a lifetime member of the Woodstock Christian Church where he served on the board as deacon, elder, trustee and on the Parsonage Building Committee. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1932 and attended Massanutten Military Academy where he completed a business course. Fred worked at Wender's Department Store for 12 years. In 1945, with the help of his family, Fred started Beidler's Furniture, a G.E. major appliance and furniture store, which he operated successfully for 28 years. Fred married Diane Peer Beidler, in June 1963. In 1973, Fred and his wife retired and sold the business to the Cline family who still operate under the name, Beidler's Furniture Store. Fred also enjoyed buying older houses and converting them into two and three bedroom apartment houses. He also built several duplex houses and a four unit brick apartment house on US 11 S in Woodstock. He was formerly on the board of First Virginia Bank. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
