Sadie Belle was the daughter of Cora Alice (Wine) Baker. Her stepfather was Charles Baker, however, the name of her biological father is unknown. Some records list Sadie’s maiden name as “Wine” while others use “Baker”. Sadie’s first husband was Harry Philip Copp (1902-1934), a farmer. Sadie and Harry married in 1923 and had four children together: Catherine, Helen, Isabelle, and Polly. They lived in Shenandoah County’s Stonewall District near Woodstock. Harry died in 1934. Her second husband was Robert Richards but he died soon after they married as a result of head injuries received in an accident at the sawmill where he worked. He died in 1937 at the age of about 30 years.. In 1938, Sadie married Mark Herbaugh (1914-1954), a truck driver. The 1940 census found the two of them living together in the Stonewall District of Shenandoah County, without children. All four of Sadie's daughters, teenaged by then, were living with other families that year and appear as “foster” children or “lodgers”. Sadie lived most of her life in and around the town of Woodstock. She worked as a cook for the school system and later for Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital where she retired from as a dietician. Outside of work and her family she volunteered with the Woodstock Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary, cooking for many of the organization’s fundraising dinners. Their son, Jerrol, died when he was only 3 years old. He was buried in Detrick Cemetery and on his headstone is engraved, "He was the sunshine of our home." The children grew up on “B” (Branch) Street in Strasburg and graduated from Strasburg High School. About 12 years after this photograph was taken, another daughter, Sherry (Williams) Rodgers, was born. As of 2022, Sherrie lived in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, Bill. They have a daughter. Margaret A. Williams married Charles Janney (Bob) Bromley, Jr. and had 4 children: Bobbie Jo (Bromley) Poling, Donna S. (Bromley) Davis, Alisa (Bromley) Kline, and Chuck Bromley. Margaret worked at and retired from Aileen, Inc. in Edinburg, VA where she worked as an office manager. Margaret then worked for the St. Paul Lutheran Preschool & Child Care Center for several years. Archie Stuart Williams married Patricia “Patsy” G. Pangle in 1949 and had 2 sons, Ricky and Ronhie Stuart Williams. Archie served in the Navy at the end of WWII then returned to Strasburg where he finished high school. He was even named “King” of the May Day Parade in 1946 or 1947. In the 1950 Federal census, Archie worked as a weaver at the silk mill in Strasburg. But the bulk of his career was spent with C & P Telephone Company, just like his two brothers, Johnny and Paul. John “Johnny” Sandy Williams married Shirley Ann Elam in 1955 and had 3 children: Laura (Williams) Allsopp, Scott A. Williams, and Stacy (Williams) Mendler. His brother, Richard, married his wife’s sister, Linda Elam. John was an Army veteran and had served in Korea. Like two of his brothers, Johnny went to work for the C & P Telephone Company. After he retired, he worked at Dulles Airport, retiring from that job as well. Paul Thomas Williams married Reia Ann Hartsell and had 2 children: P. Tim Williams and Pamela (Williams) Martz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and later worked for the C & P Telephone Company for 30 years before retiring. Richard Clark Williams married Linda Elam (whose sister married Richard’s brother) and had 3 daughters: Tamara (Williams) Kibler, Sonya (Williams) Giersch, and Elizabeth (Williams) Newman. Richard worked several places after his stint in the U.S. Navy but ended up with the Government where he worked at Mt. Weather, retiring after 34 years of service. Martha Williams married Winston C. Brill and had 4 children: Terry (Brill) Cash, Tony W., Todd, and Teddy Williams. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a former cafeteria employee at Strasburg High School, the Newstand, and former manager of the Dollar Store, all in Strasburg. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. She grew up on E. King Street in Strasburg and was the daughter of Perry Silas and Bessie Louise (Stinson) Smith. Her father worked as a weaver in the silk mill about the time this photograph was made. Her first husband was Harry Ford Lambert, Jr. who also lived in Strasburg. He was in the U.S. Navy when they married in 1958. The marriage did not last and the couple divorced. Judy's second husband was Nelson David Conner, born in New York who she married in 1969.
