Julia was from Strasburg, the daughter of Walter Fisher and Mary Irene (Pingley) Pollard. She was the youngest of three children. Her father was a conductor on the railroad. She married Garnett Lee Putnam (1920-2015), born in Hume, Fauquier County, to Joseph Pendleton and Mary Edith (Fewell) Putnam. He served in the United States Army during World War II. They married in 1949, when Garnett was a weighmaster at a lime and stone company in Strasburg. The 1950 census found the couple living in the Forks District of Warren County, where Garnett worked as a lime loader operator at a lime and stone manufacturer and Julia worked as a yarn loader in the coning room of a rayon textile manufacturer. The couple had two sons, Ronald and Marshall L. Putnam. Over their years together, Garnett worked as a mechanic at Shade Equipment, Winchester and retired from Ashworth Brothers, Winchester as a machine operator. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. (Nevin) Jones Subject The topic of the resource Jones, Judith Elizabeth (Nevin) Simmons (1936- ) Description An account of the resource Judith E. (Nevin) Jones as a baby wearing a knit hat and sweater. Born in Woodstock to George Hughs and Mildred Margaret (Miller) Nevin, her father, (originally from San Francisco, California), was an alumnus of MMA. Soon after she was born, the family moved to Falls Church in Fairfax County, where Judith grew up. In 1940, the family lived on Lee Highway and her father worked in a grocery store. In 1950, they lived on East Westmoreland Street and her father was a milkman. Judith had an older sister, Margaret H. and two younger brothers, George M. and Michael D. She played on the Girls Basketball and Softball teams in high school, graduating from Falls Church High School in 1954. Just after high school, Judith married Robert L. Simmons, an elevator mechanic from Bluefield West Virginia. They had three children together before their marriage ended in 1961. Judith was a school bus driver when she married Daniel G. Jones (1931- ) in 1964. He was a D.C. police officer and lived in Vienna. Like Judith, he was divorced with three children. He retired from the police force in 1969 and the couple lived in Florida for a few years before moving to Woodstock, where they spent their later years. Judith and Daniel were married more than fifty years when Daniel died.
