Her husband was Robert Roosevelt Spinner, a 21-year old mechanic who lived in Woodstock. His parents were Prince Albert (1892-1959) and Mattie (Johnson) (1892-1959) Spinner. In the 1950 census, Pearl was still married but lived with her parents and siblings. Her husband was not listed with them. She had a 1-year old daughter, Jacqueline, by then. Her father was working at the Viscose Plant (which later became Avtex Fibers). The couple divorced in 1955. Pearl appears to have lived much of her life in Woodstock. Her daughter, Jacqueline Maria Spinner, appeared in Central High School yearbooks in the mid-1960s. Pearl was buried in Riverview Cemetery in Woodstock. Ten years later, Alese was a 16-year old high school student and lived as a “ward” of Joseph C. and Dora M. Laughlin in the Johnston District. She was the first wife of Linden Bower Coffman (1923-2008). Linden was a 1941 graduate of Woodstock High School. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he received the Purple Heart. During his life, he worked as a meat cutter for Tom Eagle's Slaughterhouse, clerked in the F&G Supermarket in Woodstock, and was a partner in the Woodstock Pool Hall. He retired from the Woodstock Post Office after 25 years of service. The couple had three children during their years together: Sandra S., Ronald Franklin, and Holly. Alese was also active in the Woodstock community. Northern Virginia Daily articles in the 1956-1963 timeframe mention her involvement in groups like the Woodstock Senior Home Demonstration Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of Shenandoah County. She died, relatively young, of breast cancer. Charlotte was one of many children born to Oliver Milton (1898-1980) and Florence Virginia (Fogle) (1900-1994) Funk. Charlotte was a lifelong Woodstock resident and member of the St. John Bosco Catholic Church there. In August 1946, she married Miguel "Mike" Angel Chellini, Jr. (1924-1992), a graduate of MMA born in Venezuela. He was a Spanish teacher at Central High School for several years and active in the community. Two years later, the couple bought a house and 3 acres near Readus, west of Woodstock, for $7,000. During their years together, the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper reported on several of their family’s milestones including a visit from Mike’s relatives from Venezuela, the birth of their son, Michael, and a large 50th wedding anniversary party held at their home for Charlotte’s grandparents. Mike and Charlotte had two sons, Michael III, and Richardo Anthony Chellini. Unfortunately, Richardo died unexpectedly when he was just 18 years old. Miguel “Mike” Angel Chellini, Jr. was born in Caracas, Venezuela, to Miguel Angel Chellini, Sr. and Jaunita De Riera. When he was 16 years old, Mike was sent to America to attend school at Massanutten Academy in Woodstock. In 1943, Mike registered for the WWII draft. He was still a student and “Col. H.J. Benchoff” was listed as his emergency contact. Mike was described as being 63.5 inches tall and 147 pounds. Later that year, Mike enlisted in U.S. Navy in Roanoke. That Christmas, while stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station in Chicago, he came back to Woodstock for a visit. After his Navy service, Mike returned to Woodstock and married Charlotte Marie Funk in August 1946. She was one of many children born to Oliver Milton (1898-1980) and Florence Virginia (Fogle) (1900-1994) Funk. Charlotte was a lifelong Woodstock resident and member of the St. John Bosco Catholic Church there. In 1948, the couple bought a house and 3 acres near Readus, west of Woodstock, for $7,000. During their years together, the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper reported on several of their family’s milestones including a visit from Mike’s relatives from Venezuela, the birth of their son, Michael, and a large 50th wedding anniversary party held at their home for Charlotte’s grandparents. In 1950, a new paint and building specialties store opened next to the A&P store on South Main Street in Woodstock. It was owned by Daniel Burner Jr. but managed by Michael Chellini. In 1953, the family travelled back to Venezuela for a six-month visit with Mike’s parents and other relatives. After their return, the couple sold their home near Readus and bought a home and land on the Shenandoah River southeast of Woodstock. For the next several years, Mike Chellini was mentioned often in the newspaper because of his involvement with the community. In 1959, he taught tennis for the Woodstock Jaycees. Later, he was named “Treasurer” of the local Jaycees organization. He also was active in the Woodstock Little League and in June 1960, he was a Woodstock delegate to the Virginia Republican convention in Roanoke. At some point in the mid-sixties, Mike was hired by the Shenandoah County Public School system to teach Spanish at Central High School. His photograph appears as a faculty member in various Central High School yearbooks between 1966 and 1979. In fact, he was also pictured as the coach of the junior varsity football team in 1969. Mike and Charlotte had two sons, Michael III, and Richardo Anthony Chellini. Unfortunately, Richardo died unexpectedly when he was just 18 years old. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Peggy Gene Sousa Carpenter was born in Woodstock Virginia to parents Felix Luis Sousa (1896-1988) and Mildred (Ramey) Sousa (1907-2001). She lived in Staunton for a time when she was a girl and graduated from that city’s Robert E. Lee High School in 1949. After high school, Peggy moved to Winchester and attended nursing school before working at Winchester Memorial Hospital. In the 1950 census she lived in the hospital’s nurses’ boarding house. In February 1951, she married John Andrew Anderson Jr. of Winchester. They had a daughter together, Barbara (Anderson) Funk, but they divorced in 1970. At that time Peggy was working at a surgical clinic in Winchester and living in that city. After her divorce, Peggy returned to Woodstock. In 1973 she married Frank Strother Carpenter, Jr. and remained married until his death in 1994. Peggy is buried with Frank in Berryville Virginia.
