Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. He is wearing a two-tone striped jacket and a hat. Philip was a son of Roy Wayland, Sr. (1891-1966) and Julia Margaret (Spinner) (1890-1963) McAfee, from Woodstock. He had many older siblings and one younger sister. He grew up on Water Street and his father worked at MMA. By 1940, the family owned the home they lived in. Philip E. was 18 years old when he registered for the WWII draft. He worked for Rust Engineers in Front Royal and was described as being 6’ tall and 165 pounds. He served in the Army as a Private. In 1950, Philip lived on Connecticut Avenue in Washington D.C., when he married Shirley Mae Burrill in September, a young woman from Luray. The couple had two sons together, Philip Edward McAfee, Jr., and Kenneth Roosevelt McAfee. At some point, they moved back to Woodstock and lived at 135 N. Water Street where Philip worked in a restaurant for many years. Her husband was an engineer for Martin Marietta in Orlando for more than 40 years. Ellen was active in the Orlando Garden Club and the Fern Club, but her real passion was the Orlando Dog Training Club where she worked as a trainer and AKC judge. Olive graduated from Edinburg High School. Her parents were Harry Edward (1893-1953) and Elsie M. (Coffman) (1892-1971) Grim. In 1930, she was the youngest of four children and her father farmed. Her younger sister, Margaret, was born a year or so later. In January 1948, she married Floyd Eugene Mumaw (1927-1973), born in Columbia Furnace to David L. (1895-1952) and Lena Victoria (Linaweaver) (1904-1993) Mumaw. Floyd had served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. The couple began their marriage in Aliquippa, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, a town along the Ohio River about 18 miles northwest of Pittsburg. There, Olive looked after their young son, Daryl Eugene, while her husband worked as a “welded tube tester helper” in a steel mill. By the early fifties, the family had moved back to the Edinburg area of Shenandoah County where two additional children, Carolyn Sue and Vickie Lynn Mumaw, were born. Floyd worked for a textile company when he died in his forties. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
