Painter (middle of image) wearing a white shirt and tie and surrounded by other unidentified men. Bill Painter was the son of Levi and Mary Magdalena (Baker) Painter. He was from Hamburg, near Edinburg. He married Nellie Virginia (Baker) Painter (1873-1950) in 1894. He ran a livery stable in Edinburg and later operated the first Ford dealership in Shenandoah County. He died on November 16 1931 following a car crash. They are wearing matching sweaters and a couple of toys are beside them. Their parents were Ernest Earl and Anna Kline (Roller) Golladay. They grew up in Woodstock. Jane was a teacher in Woodstock when she married her first husband, Marion Swisher Swartz, in 1947. The couple raised four daughters together before he died. After he died, she married again to Coolidge Monroe Marshall Fitzwater (1923-2011). William D. Golladay served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was with the 46th Infantry Battalion and 5th Armored Division when he died from wounds received in combat near the Rhine River in Germany. He is buried in the American Cemetery in the Netherlands. PFC Golladay is a Purple Heart recipient. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. He is wearing his school's dress uniform. He was the son of Ernest Earl and Annie Kline "Nan" (Roller) Golladay. During World War II, Private Golladay served with the 46th Infantry Battalion, 5th Armored Division, VIII Corps, Ninth United States Army. William died from wounds received in combat near the Rhine River in Germany. He was nineteen. PFC Golladay is a Purple Heart recipient and is buried in The Netherlands.
