She graduated from Edinburg High School, and was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Mary Jane married Donald E. Welch (1935-2001) in 1960 in Frederick, Maryland. The couple had two children: Dawn Catherine and Bruce Edgar Welch. Mary Jane worked at C&P Telephone, Gore’s, and Handley High School during the course of her life. When she died, her home was in Stephen’s City. Benny was one of at least ten children born to Tobias Samuel (1887-1957) and Maggie Catherine (Walters) (1896-1952) Clem, a farming couple in Fort Valley. Benny graduated from Edinburg High School. He joined the U.S. Army in September 1948. The next year a short article appeared in the Northern Virginia Daily noting he had completed an 8-week clerical course at the Eta Jima School Command in Japan. From there, he was assigned to the 13th Engineer Combat Command to serve as the Battalion Records Clerk. His rank was Private First Class. He was promoted to Sergeant and stationed in Korea. He flew back for a brief visit in 1951. In November 1952, he married Helen Elizabeth Heishman (1928-2004) from Woodstock. Her father was Paul R. Heishman. Benny’s brother, Arthur Clem, served as the best man. After a honeymoon in upstate New York, the couple first lived in Wesley Chapel. They had a son, David Franklin Clem (1953-1953), who did not survive. Both Benny and Helen are buried in Fort Valley. She worked at both the Peoples Bank in Mt. Jackson and First Virginia Bank. In fact, she was working as a mortgage loan clerk when she died suddenly and unexpectedly of an aneurism. He was one of at least ten children born to Tobias Samuel (1887-1957) and Maggie Catherine (Walters) (1896-1952) Clem, a farming couple in Fort Valley. Stanley Clem was a 1946 graduate of Edinburg High School. He served in the U.S. Civil Air Patrol during WWII. After high school, he landed a job with Bethlehem Steel as a crane operator at their plant at Sparrow Point, Maryland. In 1947, he was the best man at his brother, Paul’s, wedding in Baltimore, Maryland. A year later, Stanley married Barbara Jean (Donovan) Clem in Baltimore. The couple was married for 8 years before divorcing in 1958. They had two children together, however, one of them, Ronald Lee Clem (1955-1955) was born prematurely, and did not live. He married for the second time in 1960. His bride was Genevieve Strickler, a clerk living in Arlington but born in Woodstock. Her parents were Thomas and Olive Bertha (Sibert) Strickler. Stanley and Genevieve had at least one daughter together, Amy Loraine Clem. When Stanley died, he was in Los Angeles County, California. His remains were buried in Fort Valley. The name, "Stanley Clem" and the date, "11/28/44" was written on the glass plate of this image. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028.
