Fred was born in St. Luke, son of Dr. C.C. Beidler, local veterinary surgeon, and Clara Baker Beidler. He was a lifetime member of the Woodstock Christian Church where he served on the board as deacon, elder, trustee and on the Parsonage Building Committee. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1932 and attended Massanutten Military Academy where he completed a business course. Fred worked at Wender's Department Store for 12 years. In 1945, with the help of his family, Fred started Beidler's Furniture, a G.E. major appliance and furniture store, which he operated successfully for 28 years. Fred married Diane Peer Beidler, in June 1963. In 1973, Fred and his wife retired and sold the business to the Cline family who still operate under the name, Beidler's Furniture Store. Fred also enjoyed buying older houses and converting them into two and three bedroom apartment houses. He also built several duplex houses and a four unit brick apartment house on US 11 S in Woodstock. He was formerly on the board of First Virginia Bank. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Peggy Gene (Sousa) Carpenter was born in Woodstock Virginia to parents Felix Luis Sousa (1896-1988) and Mildred (Ramey) Sousa (1907-2001). She lived in Staunton for a time when she was a girl and graduated from that city’s Robert E. Lee High School in 1949. After high school, Peggy moved to Winchester and attended nursing school before working at Winchester Memorial Hospital. In the 1950 census she lived in the hospital’s nurses’ boarding house. In February 1951, she married John Andrew Anderson Jr. of Winchester. They had a daughter together, Barbara (Anderson) Funk, but they divorced in 1970. At that time Peggy was working at a surgical clinic in Winchester and living in that city. After her divorce, Peggy returned to Woodstock. In 1973 she married Frank Strother Carpenter, Jr. and remained married until his death in 1994. Peggy died in 2021 and is buried with Frank in Berryville Virginia. Harold Schefftt died in an automobile accident on Route 11 just north of Strasburg when he was only twenty years old, leaving behind a wife, Barbara (Hottle) Schefft, and parents, Glenn Collis and Magdalene (Ramey) Schefft. At the time of his death, Harold lived in Woodstock and was an auto mechanic at Grubbs Chevrolet. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
