Dr. Fravel was the son of Charles Frederick (1859-1922) and Ida Bell (Hottel) (1859-1929) Fravel. He grew up in Woodstock. He was a practicing physician at St. Luke’s Hospital in Richmond when he met Emma Calhoun Peyton (1883-1954), the head nurse at the same hospital. The couple married in 1912 at Emma’s parents’ home in New Castle, Delaware, and returned to Richmond, where they spent many years. The couple had a son together, Peyton Charles Fravel (1922-1944), who was later killed in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII in France and buried in Belgium. Dr. Fravel’s marriage did not last, and by 1930, he lived in his brother, Thomas’, household on Spring Street in Woodstock. In August 1932, his divorce was finalized. Dr. Fravel remained in Woodstock for the rest of his life and became a well-known physician in the area. He married again in December 1933, to Adelaide Rebekah Smith (1894-1961). His new bride was from Clifton Forge, Virginia. Dr. Fravel and Adelaide are buried together in Massanutten Cemetery, Woodstock. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. His parents were Walter Elliott and Lucy Virginia (Richard) Richman of Maurertown. In May 1955, he married Patsy Kay Painter in Maurertown. Her parents were Charles Hubert and Mary Elizabeth (Combs) Painter. At that time, Elliot was a 23-year old truck driver and his young wife was still a student. Later on, Elliot was a self-employed plumber, electrician, and a farmer. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. He was buried in Woodstock. When he died, Elliot left behind his wife and four sons, Steven E., Michael A., Phillip W., and David T. Richman.
