The original images were taken in the Snowy Ridgy area of Wyoming. Lee was the son of Emery Franklin (1889-1949) and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Sarah (Wisman) (1889-1972) Bushong. He grew up with three brothers on a farm in the Stonewall District of the county. In 1921, 6-year old Lee and his younger brother, Gilbert, survived a harrowing 250-foot fall over a precipice across the river from the Triplett power plant. It occurred when the horse his father was using to pull a wagon up a mountain broke away and ran over the cliff with the wagon and boys attached. The two boys were found badly bruised but alive at the foot of the cliff near the river. They had to be rescued by boat. The newspaper article described the event as “one of the most remarkable escapes in the history of the mountains”. He married Ruth Elizabeth (Clem) in July 1935, in Cumberland, Maryland. She was born in Pennsylvania. In the 1940 census, they both lived on State Road 604 (Fairview Road) near Woodstock with Lee’s parents. Lee worked as a stock dealer. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper at a private school. Their marriage did not last and they divorced in 1941. For a time, Lee and two brothers, Gilbert and Forest "Peanut" Bushong, had a ranch in the Snowy Ridge area of Wyoming. Lee was a hunting guide there. He married for the second time in 1942, in Boonesboro, Kentucky. His wife, Bera Maxine (Brosnious) (1917-2010) was born in Kane, Wyoming, the daughter of Joseph J. and Mary (Herren) Brosnious. Lee worked with horses much of his life. He and his wife were known for being avid race horse owners in the Front Royal area. Lee was also a well-known stock man and cattle dealer. His wife bred Limousin Cattle and worked as a teacher and administrator in the Warren County Public School system for 32 years. They did not have children. Lee's last residence was in Hedgesville, West Virginia. Boyer (left) with his brother, Lacy Alva Boyer (right), when both were very young. Their parents were George William (1880-1943) and Mary Lacy (Rush) (1885-1966) Boyer, from Woodstock. At least two other siblings died as infants. When Rush W. Boyer registered for the WWII draft, he worked for Holmes & Son, Co. in Washington D.C. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. By 1950, he was in Fauquier County, married to Hedy Clementine (Williams) Boyer, and working as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office. Rush re-enlisted in the military and served another two years (1950-1952). His wife died sometime after that and Rush married for the second time in 1961. At that time, he lived in Midland, Virginia, and worked as a Surveyor. His bride was also widowed. She was Rachel Lou Keathley, a secretary born in Sparta, Tennessee. Rush is buried in Culpeper, Virginia. Lacy Alva Boyer graduated from Massanutten Military Academy (MMA) in Woodstock in 1933 and was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Margaret Wallace (Shields) Boyer (1918-2006) and had a son, George W. Boyer. Lacy retired in 1980 as branch manager for Farm Credit. He lived in Woodstock most of his life and, through the years, was a member of Woodstock Presbyterian Church and the Woodstock Rotary Club, where he was president from 1957 to 1958 and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1995. He also served as a board member of Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock and Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community. The estate has been around since Saxon times and is located on the River Avon and the Coventry Road between Warwick and Leek Wootton, in Warwickshire, England. The house was used as a hospital during World War I and in World War II became a school for evacuated children. The estate was broken up and sold in 1947. In 1952 the mill became a pub and restaurant and was named The Saxon Mill, the stables became a riding school, the kitchen garden became a nursery, all of which still exist today. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
