Sibert (left), his son, Joseph "Joe" B. (standing), and his wife, Ruth Violet (Baker) Sibert. All three are buried in Mt. Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery. Robert C. Sibert was born in Mt. Olive, the son of Charles R. and Lydia (Fauver) Sibert. He grew up on a farm and married Ruth Violet Baker in November 1909 in Shenandoah County. By 1930, they lived on Back Road (near Mt. Olive Road) and owned their farm. They had an 11-year old son, Joseph. After his wife died, Robert moved to a nearby farm where he was listed as a lodger in the 1950 census. When he died, Robert was no longer farming. His occupation was listed as a self-employed stock dealer. Joseph grew up on his parents’ farm and married in 1942 just before he entered the military where he served for four years. His wife was Florence Sidney (Miller) Sibert (1918-2014), born in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, to Milton Frederick (1890-1962) and Mabel Virginia (Reinhart) (1897-1951) Miller. After his military service Joseph returned to Toms Brook where he spent his life farming. The couple was married over 50 years when Joseph died. Both he and his wife are buried in the Mt. Olive Methodist Church Cemetery in Toms Brook. Ruth Violet (Baker) Sibert was born in Shenandoah County to Benjamin Edward and Mary C. Baker. In the 1900 census, she lived with her parents and three siblings – Earl, Catherine and Fred – on her parents’ farm in the Davis District of the county. Her father’s occupation was “Merchant”. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
