(Lichliter) and her husband, Lester Shillingburg, and his mother’s parents, on a farm in Fort Valley. Ten years later, the 1950 census confirmed he was still there and working as a farmhand. He married Kathryn Delores Wilkins (1930-2020) in 1955. At that time, he worked at the Old Virginia Package Company. Kathryn was born in Maurertown, to William Harry Wilkins, Sr. and Hester Kavanagh (Cavenall) Wilkins. She was a 1948 graduate of Woodstock High School and worked for many years at the Walton and Smoot Pharmacy in Woodstock before she retired. After high school, Peggy moved to Winchester and attended nursing school before working at Winchester Memorial Hospital. In the 1950 census she lived in the hospital’s nurses’ boarding house. In February 1951, she married John Andrew Anderson Jr. of Winchester. They had a daughter together, Barbara (Anderson) Funk, but they divorced in 1970. At that time Peggy was working at a surgical clinic in Winchester and living in that city. After her divorce, Peggy returned to Woodstock. In 1973 she married Frank Strother Carpenter, Jr. and remained married until his death in 1994. Peggy died in 2021 and is buried with Frank in Berryville Virginia. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Ethel was from the St. Luke area of Shenandoah County. Her parents were Luther Abbot (1859-1922) and Minerva Frances (Wolverton) (1859-1922) Stultz. She married Earl Belew Hoover (1893-1982), in 1925, in Woodstock. He was the son of Charles L. and Sarah Catherine (Wisman) Hoover. Both Earl and Esther were in their early thirties and living in Woodstock when they married. Shortly after their wedding, the couple moved to New Freedom, York, Pennsylvania, where Earl already had a job with the American Insulator Company. Ethel worked at home as a dressmaker for many years. She did not have children. In the 1930 and 1940 censuses, Ethel’s sister, Lena Stultz, lived with them in New Freedom. Earl retired in 1951, and the couple spent their last years living together at the Shrewsbury Retirement Village in Pennsylvania.
