Katie was from the Lee District of Shenandoah County, a daughter of Charles Moses and Annie M. (Jones) Getz. The family farmed. She married Charles Davis Meyerhoffer (1887-1942) in Bridgewater in 1929. His parents were Charles L. and Vernie Laura (Riddle) Meyerhoffer. He was born in Rockingham County. When they married, they lived in North River, West Virginia, where her husband was a merchant. In 1930, they lived on Keezletown Road in the Ashby District of Shenandoah County where her husband was a retail merchant in a general store. Later, they lived in Mt. Crawford in Rockingham County, where Charles was a farmer and hatcheryman. Katie’s husband died in his fifties. Eight years later, the 1950 census found her living with her brother’s family back in the Lee District. When she died, she lived in Mount Jackson. Sine Subject The topic of the resource Sine, Stanley Lockwood (1918-1992) Soldiers - American - Virginia - Shenandoah County Description An account of the resource Portrait photograph of Stanley Lockwood Sine as a young Corporal wearing his U.S. Army uniform. Stanley was born in Woodstock, the son of Mathew Stanley Quay (1894-1974) and Mary Rebecca (Burnshire) (1893-1990) Sine. His father was a truck driver. Stanley graduated from Woodstock High School. When he registered for the WWII draft, Stanley worked at Southern Dairies in Woodstock. He was described as being 6’2” tall and 175 pounds. Shortly after, in 1941, he enlisted as a Private in the Army. He was promoted to captain and served in the 29th Infantry Division of the Virginia National Guard. He spent 15 months in the European theatre of war before he was discharged in 1946. After the war, in February 1946, he married Marjorie Kathleen Stultz (1924-2019). She was born in Shenandoah County but her mother had died when she was very young. She was raised by an aunt and uncle, Earl and Ethel Hoover, in New Freedom, York, Pennsylvania. By 1950, the couple lived on West Spring Street in Woodstock and had a one-year old son, Stephen A. Sine. Stanley worked for the town’s maintenance Department as the Assistant Foreman. That same year, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army for another stint of military service (1950-1951) during the Korean War. At some point, Stanley was hired to teach at Massanutten Military Academy (MMA). He was an ROTC instructor during the period when the Army consistently named MMA’s cadet corps one of the best trained and disciplined units of the 40-plus schools evaluated and even awarded the school honor status, a prestigious title. Stanley appears in both the 1963 and 1966 yearbooks for MMA in his uniform. His wife also worked there for ten years as the manager of the canteen. It is unclear when Stanley left MMA, but when he died, his occupation was listed as a retired wholesale clerk. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
