Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Irvin Golliday Subject The topic of the resource Golliday, Claude Irvin (1920-2002) Description An account of the resource Portrait photograph of Claude Irvin Golliday, seated, with his hands folded on his lap. Irvin was born in Maryland, the son of Thomas Fletcher and Olive (Carrier) Golliday. He served in the Merchant Marines and later made his living as a bricklayer. He moved to Woodstock as a boy. In 1930, he and his three brothers lived with their widowed mother, “Ollie B.” on South Main Street. Ten years later, he was still single and living with his mother on Muhlenberg Street. He worked as a bricklayer. In the 1940’s, he married Ethel Lorraine (Barrow) Golliday and they spent their years together in Woodstock. They had a son, Donald I. Golliday. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Bob was born in Strasburg, the son of Robert Earl “Skeeter” Willey, Sr. and Miriam Elaine "Sis" (Wolfe) Willey. He was a 1956 graduate of Strasburg High School and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. He was a former co-owner of Peoples Drug Store and was a pharmacist for 59 years. His wife was Sandra Kay (Polk) Willey (1942-2015). The couple had a son, Curtis Edwin Willey, and two daughters, Crystal and Carla. He was a life member of the Strasburg Christian Church where he served as Elder and a member of the Men’s Fellowship. He was a charter member of the Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, a past Worship Master of Spurmont Masonic Lodge No. 98, Strasburg and a former Strasburg Town Councilman.
