Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Ruby was the daughter of the late Roy Adison and Helen Virginia (O’Neal) Lichliter. She was a 1941 graduate of Edinburg High School. A year later, she married Carson Marion Lichliter and lived in Fort Valley for several years. Her husband worked at a saw mill and she worked at the Celanese Plant. The couple had three children: Cary Dean, Lana, and Zane Alan Lichliter. She and Carson divorced in 1953 and a year later, her name became Shipe. This second union did not last and in 1967, she married Clayton Jett. She retired from Avtex Fibers in November of 1989, was the recording secretary for the Avtex Retirees Club, and a member of the Jolly 60’s AARP, the Warren County Senior Center and the Riverton United Methodist Church, where she was in charge of Parliaments. Douglas grew up in Woodstock, the oldest child of Clarence Lemuel and Vesta Schaeffer Orndorff. In 1920, the family lived in Woodstock where Douglas’ father worked as a machinist at the creamery. Douglas had four younger siblings at that time. He married 21-year old Stella Virginia Combs in April 1938 when he worked as a Drug clerk. She was from Rockingham County and lived in Broadway. Five years later, Douglas enlisted in the Army and became part of the 78th Replacement Battalion, 455th Replacement Company. His rank was “T-4”. He served from June 1943 to November 1945. Douglas and Stella divorced a couple of years after he got out of the military. Less than a year later, he married his second wife, Margret Vernell Webber Hamner (1908-1977) in Harrisonburg, where they both lived. When they married, Douglas was an apprentice embalmer while Margret worked as the manager of the “Smart & Thrifty” store. The 1950 census found the couple living on N. Garfield Street in Arlington where Douglas worked as a mortician in a funeral home. The couple had an 11-year old son, Frank F. Orndorff. Eventually, they moved back to Woodstock, where Douglas died in 1967. He and Margret are both buried in Lynchburg, where she was born.
