Felix was born in Spain and immigrated around 1926. He married Mildred (Ramey) Sousa (1907-2001), from Woodstock, in 1930 when he was the “proprietor of the cleaning and pressing shop” at Massanutten Military Academy (MMA). His wife was the daughter of Eugene Hupp and Margaret Elizabeth (Hoffman) Ramey. Felix had been at MMA for a couple of years by then. A few years after they married, the couple moved to Staunton, Virginia, where Felix and his wife raised two daughters: Peggy and Roberta Ann Sousa. When Felix registered for the WWII draft in 1942, he worked for Shenandoah Tailoring in Mt. Sidney, Virginia. By 1950, the family had moved back to Woodstock where the census found him and his wife living on West Locust Street. Felix was still listed as a tailor. When he died more than 30 years later, his death certificate revealed that neither his address nor his occupation had changed. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
