Harry was born in Star Tannery, one of several children born to William Riley Lineweaver and his second wife, Clara Naomi (McIlwee) Lineweaver. In the 1920 and 1930 censuses, Harry lived with his family in the Stonewall District where his father farmed. In 1930, the census included Harry's job as a clerk in a dry goods store. He married in April 1936 in Washington D.C. where he was working and living. His bride was Lavania Rothwell Smith. The couple raised two sons together, William H. and James. Harry stayed in Washington D.C. for many years and became the manager of a chain grocery store, Sanitary Grocery Company, on Bladensburg Road in Northeast D.C. One night in November 1939, thieves broke into his store and stole the money in the safe. The Evening Star newspaper reported that it was "a carefully executed robbery" and included quotes from the manager, Harry Lineweaver. By 1950, the census found Harry, Lavania and their two sons living in Hyattsville, Prince Georges County, Md. He was still managing a grocery store. He died after an illness in Washington, D.C. The name, "Harry Lineweaver", is written on the glass plate of this image. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Biographical Text Hazel Woodville enjoyed her retirement life in her Fort Valley home growing vegetables, cooking, and sewing. Woodville and her husband moved to Shenandoah County in 1973 after living in Maryland. She worked for the C&P Telephone Company for 42 years where she became a group chief operator. Her other hobbies included traveling, creating bridal dolls, making afghans, and spending time with her two children. Title A name given to the resource Headquarters School Subject The topic of the resource Headquarters (Va) Description An account of the resource In 1891 the Shenandoah County School Board constructed this school near the intersection of what is now Headquarters and Cave Ridge Roads. It was named Headquarters School after the local community which featured a church, stores, and several residences. The building was a typical school of the time. It was a one-story, frame structure with a tin roof and stone foundation. The interior contained a single classroom and two coat rooms with plaster walls, oil lamp, and stove heat. Restroom facilities and water was located outside. Approximately 20 students enrolled in grades 1-7 studied here when the school opened. That number would remain fairly consistent for the next four decades. Students wishing to continue their education after grade seven would have had to attend High School in one of the area towns. Until the early 1930s, this would have required paying tuition and arranging for their own transportation. In 1939 Headquarters School was closed and students were transferred to Edinburg. The building was heavily damaged in 1975 and partially demolished. It is no longer standing.
