Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. The image appeared in the Shenandoah Herald. Jacob C. Saylor was a New Market native that deployed to Korea on July 31st 1950 as a part of the 2nd Infantry Division. He fought in actions related to the defense of the Pusan Perimeter. He nicknamed his machine gun "Anna Belle." On August 31, 1950 Saylor was wounded and evacuated to Japan. He left the army in 1953 and currently residents in Broadway Virginia. His parents were Jacob and Eleonor Hollingsworth (Grabill) Haun. He grew up in Woodstock. After attending Woodstock Grade School, Jake graduated from Massanutten Military Academy in 1949, then from the University of Virginia in 1953 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He earned his MBA from Harvard University in 1955. Jake served four years as an officer with the U.S. Navy, two of which were on the USS Maddox, Destroyer, Pacific Fleet. He married Eloise Frances (Clymer) Haun in 1960 when he was a young engineer. The couple had three children but divorced in 1974. After a short stint running the family insurance business and several years working as an engineer and researcher, Jake earned his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1972. He worked several years as an Emergency Room physician in Richmond and Woodstock. Jake married for the second time to Diane Gardner and had two additional children with her. His final years were spent in Woodstock where he was active and well-known in the community. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Title A name given to the resource Jacob Ryman Subject The topic of the resource Ryman, Jacob Homer (1877-1923) Description An account of the resource A cabinet card photograph of Jacob Ryman. The photograph was produced by Leedham of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Jacob Ryman was born September 10, 1877 in the St. Luke Community of Shenandoah County. On December 23, 1903 he married Rose Riffey also of St. Luke. At the time he is listed as a farmer. By 1917 he is living in Ellwood City, Lawrence Pennsylvania where he is working as a "Hammer Driver" at the Steel Car Forge Company. His WWI draft registration card noted he had a finger on his left hand amputated at the knuckle. Jacob was still working at the forge in 1920, but he passed away on January 27, 1923 of pneumonia. His profession was given as "Ice Dealer." He is buried at Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Saint Luke, Virginia alongside his wife who died in 1962.
