She married Charles Davis Meyerhoffer (1887-1942) in Bridgewater in 1929. His parents were Charles L. and Vernie Laura (Riddle) Meyerhoffer. He was born in Rockingham County. When they married, they lived in North River, West Virginia, where her husband was a merchant. In 1930, they lived on Keezletown Road in the Ashby District of Shenandoah County where her husband was a retail merchant in a general store. Later, they lived in Mt. Crawford in Rockingham County, where Charles was a farmer and hatcheryman. Katie’s husband died in his fifties. Eight years later, the 1950 census found her living with her brother’s family back in the Lee District. When she died, she lived in Mount Jackson. She married Tasker Frederick Shrum (1889 - 1970) in October, 1910, and by the 1920 census, the couple had two daughters: Dorothy Rebecca Shrum (born in 1913) and Ruth Virginia Shrum (born in 1919). Katie’s husband worked as a farmhand. He was the son of Joseph Alton (1853-1912) and Amanda Jane (Hollar) (1855-1933) Shrum. Katie lived in Toms Brook when she died. The family was listed there in the 1940 census as well. She was buried in Harrisville, located in the northern part of Shenandoah County. She was the daughter of Paul Samuel Coffelt (1903-2003) (born in Winchester), and Mary Bond (Parker) (1914-2000) Coffelt, (born in West Virginia). Kay was born in April 1944 in Washington D.C. She was the firstborn child of this couple. Her mother had an older son from a prior marriage to Raymond Taylor. In 1950, the census found the family living in Opequon, Frederick County. Kay’s father worked at a Rayon Textile Plant. A few years later, Kay attended James Wood High School in Winchester. In 1962, Kay married Floyd Leslie Ritter, a carpenter born in Winchester. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Title A name given to the resource Kaye Shelton Subject The topic of the resource Shelton, Kaye Woodstock (Va) Fort Valley (Va) Description An account of the resource Kaye Shelton and her husband Les moved to Shenandoah County from Arlington County in 1973. Prior to that, Kaye had worked for the Arlington County Police Department as their secretary for 27 years. The couple found established retirement home in Fort Valley Virginia, near St. David's Church. Nicknamed "Shelpine" it was a place she found time to enjoy her hobbies of sewing and enjoying her beautiful surroundings. Kaye and her husband also enjoyed dancing and she noted "we got to every dance we can." Kaye also operated the Suffed Pepper Gift Shop in Woodstock which she purchased in 1975. The shop sold artist supplies and other gift items to the community.
