Buddy was born in Saumsville, to Ezra Lee (1878-1958) and Susie V. (Seal) (1891-1976) Lucas. His father farmed and had been married before. Both of his parents were born in Luray, Virginia. In the 1940 census, however, the family lived in Woodstock where his father worked in an orchard. Buddy married Elva Virginia Guess in 1951. She was the daughter of Seymour Walton (1909-1998) and Dora V. (Bowman) (1904-1979) Guess. Their application to marry was published in the Evening Star Newspaper in Washington, D.C. on June 23rd, 1951. Probably, they both lived there at that time. Buddy and his wife are buried together in the Cedarwood Cemetery in Edinburg. Nancy was born in Edinburg to Lloyd Amos (1907-1972) and Evaline Frances (Bowers) (1911-1994) Hutcheson. In 1940, the family lived in the Madison District of Shenandoah with Nancy’s great uncle, Wilbur A. Hutcheson. He was a retired farmer and Nancy’s father was working as a laborer for the State Roads Department. He earned $350 in 1939. Additional income from the farm was probably needed to sustain the family. In 1950, the family lived on a farm between Calvary Road and Narrow Passage Creek. Nancy married Jerry Franklin Hoffman (1932-2014) in Williamsport, Maryland, in October 1955. He was the son of Harry Cecil Hoffman. The marriage lasted about nine years before they divorced in November 1963. By then, they had a daughter. At the time of her divorce, Nancy lived in Woodstock where she did factory work for Remy, Inc. She stayed in Woodstock for the rest of her life. Betty’s obituary, published in the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper on August 31, 2011, mentioned she was a member of St. Luke Brethren Church, where she served in various offices, was a Sunday School Teacher, and attended the Cedar Creek Christian Church. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
