Sibert (left), his son, Joseph "Joe" B. (standing), and his wife, Ruth Violet (Baker) Sibert. Robert C. Sibert was born in Mt. Olive, the son of Charles R. and Lydia (Fauver) Sibert. He grew up on a farm. Ruth Violet (Baker) Sibert was born in Shenandoah County to Benjamin Edward and Mary C. Baker. In the 1900 census, she lived with her parents and three siblings – Earl, Catherine and Fred – on her parents’ farm in the Davis District of the county. Her father’s occupation was “Merchant”. Robert and Ruth married in 1909 and by 1930, they lived on Back Road (near Mt. Olive Road) and owned their farm. They had an 11-year old son, Joseph. After his wife died, Robert moved to a nearby farm where he was listed as a lodger in the 1950 census. When he died, Robert was no longer farming. His occupation was listed as a self-employed stock dealer. Joseph grew up on his parents’ farm and married in 1942 just before he entered the military where he served for four years. His wife was Florence Sidney (Miller) Sibert (1918-2014), born in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, to Milton Frederick (1890-1962) and Mabel Virginia (Reinhart) (1897-1951) Miller. After his military service Joseph returned to Toms Brook where he spent his life farming. The couple was married over 50 years when Joseph died. Both he and his wife are buried in the Mt. Olive Methodist Church Cemetery in Toms Brook. As a young man, Robert moved to Washington D.C. where he worked as a mail clerk for the railroads for many decades. In his WWII registration record, his place of employment was Union Station. He married in about 1908 to Mary Dorothy (Miller) Funkhouser (1886-1976), the daughter of Adam R. (1853-1922) and Catherine (Polk) (1852-1927) Miller. By 1940, he owned his home on 5th St. N.E., and had a son, Earl M. Both Robert and his wife died in Washington D.C., and are buried in West Falls Church, Fairfax County, Virginia. Robert Getz was born in the Getz community of Shenandoah County. His parents were William Jackson and Permelia (Bowers) Getz. He attended the U.S. College of Veterinary Science. When World War One began, he was practicing as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in Mount Jackson Virginia. On June 20, 1917 he enlisted in the United States Army's Medical Corps, Veterinary Section. He was assigned to the Remount Depot for the 80th division. Later he served with the eastern division purchasing board in Washington DC, the remount depot at Camp Lee, and the remount depot at Camp Green in Charleston N.C. On January 10, 1919 he was discharged as a 1st lieutenant and returned to civilian life as a Veterinary Doctor. On his postwar military service record survey he wrote his attitude toward military service was "favorable-interested." He married Birdie Mae (Helbert) Getz (1892-1968). Robert Lemuel Getz died in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was born April 12, 1944 , in Burlington, Vermont. Bob got his BS at Syracuse University, NY in Political Science and his MBA at George Washington University in Washington DC. Bob spent his entire working career at the US Government Printing Office in Washington DC in their Labor Relation Department. Bob had so many dear friends that loved to party with him at his Singers Glen House, in Singers Glen Virginia where he lived for 28 years. They would get together and play Bridge at all hours of the night. Bob is survived by his sisters, Karla Young of Virginia, Pamela Clift of Arizona; and his brother Adam Green of Nevada. A Celebration of Life for Robert “Bob” Francis Green will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Harrisonburg Unitarian Fellowship, 4101 Rawley Pike, Harrisonburg, VA.
