Pete was a naturalized citizen born in Greece. He was a partner in, and later co-owner of the New York Restaurant in Woodstock, Virginia, from 1922 until his death in 1956. Pete was the son of Angelo Blentson and immigrated in 1907. The 1930 census found him living on Main Street in Woodstock with four other Greek men who were all working as waiters in a restaurant. Pete married Rena P. Pappas (1900-1973) in 1931, and by 1950, the census found the couple still on Main Street and raising two children, Angelo (19 years old) and Helen (18 years old). After he died, his son, Angelo, opened the Blue Star Diner on the southern end of town. That establishment was later moved to Newport News by the family where it continued to exist for many additional years. The building that housed the New York Restaurant was eventually torn down to make room for the current Circuit Court building in Woodstock. From the Saumsville area, Gilbert was the only child born to Philip Ray (1895-1952) and Stella (Richman) (1897-1922) Coffman. His mother died soon after he was born. Gilbert went to live with his mother’s sister, Ida B. (Richman) Gochenour and her husband, Charles “Charley” W. Gochenour. Gilbert’s father re-married and had additional children with his second wife. In the 1930 and 1940 censuses, Gilbert lived with his aunt and uncle on Saumsville Road east of Maurertown. Both Gilbert and his uncle worked as carpenters in 1940. In February 1942, Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He may have started out in the reserves. He served during WWII until his discharge in 1945. His gravestone notes his rank was Staff Sergeant. After the war, the 1950 census found him living in Arlington, Virginia. By then he was married to Neta M. (Racey) Coffman and they had a son, Steven, who was a year old. Gilbert worked as a reception clerk for the Red Cross. Eventually, Gilbert and his wife, Neta, moved back to Maurertown. He is buried in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock. Irvin Kern Fravel (1913-2004) was a bit older and worked as a hotel manager when they married. The couple had a son together, Robert Allen, but the marriage ended soon after. She was divorced by 1945. Phyllis married again a year later in Virginia Beach. Her second husband was Noah Hughes (1909-1997), born in North Carolina. He managed a poultry farm in the 1950 census for the Lee District of Shenandoah County. Robert was listed as a 7-year old step-son in that record. However, when Robert married years later, his last name was Hughes and his father was listed as Noah Hughes. Phyllis lived in Timberville, near Harrisonburg, when she died. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Margaret was born to Mark Welsh Magruder and Lilia Myrtle Riddleberger. She grew up in Woodstock where her father was an agent in the Fire Insurance business. The 1910 census found the family living on Main Street, in a home that Margaret’s parents owned free and clear (no mortgage). Margaret never married and worked as a schoolteacher in the Woodstock for many years. When she died, she was listed as a retired teacher. She is buried in Massanutten Cemetery. His parents were Frank Kern and Elizabeth (Newell) Stickley, a farming couple from the Davis District of Shenandoah County. He married Sarah Irene Stickley (1903-1968), from Frederick County, and lived with her on a farm in the Strasburg area until his death. Sarah Irene Stickley was the daughter of William Murphy Stickley and Emeline Daisy Fry. In the 1940 census, she was a teacher at a public school while her husband, Sam, was listed as a farmer.
