The school year, "1937-1938" is partly visible at the bottom of the image. He was born in Wardensville, West Virginia, and grew up in the Wheatfield community of Shenandoah County, near Strasburg. His parents were Erol Leslie and Bettie Catherine (Snarr) Himelright. When he registered for the WWII draft, Harry lived in Hyattsville, Maryland, and worked at Washington's National Airport. He was described as being 5'9" tall, 170 pounds with blue eyes, red hair, and a scar on his right shoulder. He married Ida Mae Smith in 1943 in Riverdale, Maryland. The couple had at least three children together before they divorced in 1963. His second wife was Thelma Virginia (Robinson) Himelright from Warren County. The couple married in 1964, but divorced about five years later. At that time, he lived in Elkton and worked in a department store in Rockingham County where he managed the appliance department. Harry was a retired mechanic and lived in Edinburg when he died. He is buried in Lebanon Church. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. (Steele) Pauley Subject The topic of the resource Pauley, Geraldine Virginia Steele (1927-2002) Description An account of the resource Portrait photograph of Geraldine Virginia (Steele) Pauley as a young woman and shown almost in profile. Born in Middletown, Frederick County, Geraldine was the daughter of Albert Cydney and Orville A. (Miller) Steele. She grew up in Strasburg and had a sister, Frances, and a brother, Marvin. Her first husband was Bernard H. Estep, an Army soldier from West Virginia stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Geraldine was working as a secretary and living in Alexandria when they married in 1945. In 1990, she married Kellas Kermit Pauley in Florida. He was originally from West Virginia and the couple spent 10 years together before he died. She spent much of her life in West Virginia. When she died, her obituary noted she was a retired administrative secretary from the West Virginia Supreme Court. Paul was the son of Andrew Jackson and Mary Catherine (Hockman) Ridings. He went to school in Strasburg. His wife was Ruth Lillian (Estep) Ridings. Paul was a building contractor and lived in the Strasburg area for most of his life. He moved to Weyer's Cave, Virginia, shortly before his death.
