Clara Irene Gochenour was the daughter of Calvin and Alice (Windle) Gochenour. She had many siblings growing up. The 1930 census found the family living on Back Road near St. Luke. Clara and Stanley raised at least three children over the next several decades. They were Alden G., Blanche M., and Margetta (or Mary Etta). The 1950 census found the couple living in the Davis District where Stanley worked as a pipefitter for the American Viscose Corporation and Clara helped with farm work. They had a 14-year old daughter, Mary Etta, living with them. Stanley died as the result of an accident when he was in his seventies. His pants caught fire while he was burning tree stumps at his home in Strasburg. Second and third-degree burns affected 47% of his body and led to septicemia and pneumonia. He did not recover. Clara lived a long life. Her last residence was on Junction Road in Strasburg before moving to the Lantzers Home for Adults in Middletown, where she died. Both Stanley and Clara are buried together in Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Alonzaville, near Maurertown. Stanley was a farmer and owner and operator of Foltz Meat Processors near Edinburg. He was formerly employed with Shen-Valley Meat Packers and American Viscose (later called Avtex Fibers). He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Hamburg and Shenandoah Lodge #82. His son, Larry Sine Foltz, Sr., graduated from Edinburg High School in 1959. Right after, he joined the U.S. Army and completed his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The Northern Virginia Daily reported on October 13, 1959, that he was spending eight weeks of advanced individual artillery training at The Artillery and Missile Center in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The purpose was to learn the duties of a cannoneer in a 105-millimeter howitzer section. In 1966, after his military service, he married Marie Estell Boyce, born in Strasburg to Arthur Robert and Mary Elizabeth (Feller) Boyce. She lived in Edinburg and was a seamstress. At that time, Larry was a truck driver. He lived in Woodstock when he died. For his service, he earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Occupational Medal-Army, Prisoner of War Medal, American Campaign Medal, Victory Medal WW II, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Marksman Badge, Sharpshooter Badge. After the war, he was an auto mechanic and auto parts manager for Mason Motor Sales and retired in 1986. He is buried in Mount Jackson. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium and spent 3 months in a prison camp in Germany. He ended his tour of duty as master sergeant. For his service, he earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, Occupational Medal-Army, Prisoner of War Medal, American Campaign Medal, Victory Medal WW II, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Marksman Badge, Sharpshooter Badge. After the war, he was an auto mechanic and auto parts manager for Mason Motor Sales and retired in 1986. He is buried in Mount Jackson. Stanley would have been Naomi’s nephew and the 1920 census found Stanley living with the Newman family as a 5-year old. Stanley was born in Woodstock, the son of Mathew Stanley Quay (1894-1974) and Mary Rebecca (Burnshire) (1893-1990) Sine. His father was a truck driver. Stanley graduated from Woodstock High School. When he registered for the WWII draft, Stanley worked at Southern Dairies in Woodstock. He was described as being 6’2” tall and 175 pounds. Shortly after, in 1941, he enlisted as a Private in the Army. He was promoted to captain and served in the 29th Infantry Division of the Virginia National Guard. He spent 15 months in the European theatre of war before he was discharged in 1946. After the war, in February 1946, he married Marjorie Kathleen Stultz (1924-2019). She was born in Shenandoah County but her mother had died when she was very young. She was raised by an aunt and uncle, Earl and Ethel Hoover, in New Freedom, York, Pennsylvania. By 1950, the couple lived on West Spring Street in Woodstock and had a one-year old son, Stephen A. Sine. Stanley worked for the town’s maintenance Department as the Assistant Foreman. That same year, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army for another stint of military service (1950-1951) during the Korean War. At some point, Stanley was hired to teach at Massanutten Military Academy (MMA). He was an ROTC instructor during the period when the Army consistently named MMA’s cadet corps one of the best trained and disciplined units of the 40-plus schools evaluated and even awarded the school honor status, a prestigious title. Stanley appears in both the 1963 and 1966 yearbooks for MMA in his uniform. His wife also worked there for ten years as the manager of the canteen. It is unclear when Stanley left MMA, but when he died, his occupation was listed as a retired wholesale clerk. Helsley, in April 1, 1955. The couple had four children; Stanley Allen, Barry Palmer, Ellen Cae, and Dana Sue Helsley. Stanley was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired after 30 years of service at McLean Trucking Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. After retiring, he returned to Shenandoah County, where he managed Woodstock Ford Tractor until it closed. His sister, Phyllis Anne Helsley, was a 1948 graduate of Edinburg High School and attended Palmer's Business School. She married Ray Albert Ryan. They had two children, James Lee and Kathy Ann Ryan. Phyllis was employed with Bowman Apple for 46 years and volunteered at the gift shop at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. She was a lifetime member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church.
