In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Fletcher of Strasburg. Mary grew up on West Washington Street with her brother, Shirley. Her parents were Charles Luther and Sarah Ellen (Hockman) Fletcher. In the 1930 census, Mary was a bank clerk. In 1940, she worked as stenographer for a lime company. Ten years later, she was a bookkeeper in a retail drug store. She never married. She and her brother remained in the same house over many decades. She died in Alexandria, Virginia, where she was living at the Goodwin House. Margaret A. Williams married Charles Janney (Bob) Bromley, Jr. and had 4 children: Bobbie Jo (Bromley) Poling, Donna S. (Bromley) Davis, Alisa (Bromley) Kline, and Chuck Bromley. Margaret worked at and retired from Aileen, Inc. in Edinburg, VA where she worked as an office manager. Margaret then worked for the St. Paul Lutheran Preschool & Child Care Center for several years. Archie Stuart Williams married Patricia “Patsy” G. Pangle in 1949 and had 2 sons, Ricky and Ronhie Stuart Williams. Archie served in the Navy at the end of WWII then returned to Strasburg where he finished high school. He was even named “King” of the May Day Parade in 1946 or 1947. In the 1950 Federal census, Archie worked as a weaver at the silk mill in Strasburg. But the bulk of his career was spent with C & P Telephone Company, just like his two brothers, Johnny and Paul. John “Johnny” Sandy Williams married Shirley Ann Elam in 1955 and had 3 children: Laura (Williams) Allsopp, Scott A. Williams, and Stacy (Williams) Mendler. His brother, Richard, married his wife’s sister, Linda Elam. John was an Army veteran and had served in Korea. Like two of his brothers, Johnny went to work for the C & P Telephone Company. After he retired, he worked at Dulles Airport, retiring from that job as well. Paul Thomas Williams married Reia Ann Hartsell and had 2 children: P. Tim Williams and Pamela (Williams) Martz. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and later worked for the C & P Telephone Company for 30 years before retiring. Richard Clark Williams married Linda Elam (whose sister married Richard’s brother) and had 3 daughters: Tamara (Williams) Kibler, Sonya (Williams) Giersch, and Elizabeth (Williams) Newman. Richard worked several places after his stint in the U.S. Navy but ended up with the Government where he worked at Mt. Weather, retiring after 34 years of service. Martha Williams married Winston C. Brill and had 4 children: Terry (Brill) Cash, Tony W., Todd, and Teddy Williams. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a former cafeteria employee at Strasburg High School, the Newstand, and former manager of the Dollar Store, all in Strasburg.
