George was born in Jerome to Pius Martin (1876-1952) and Rebecca Frances (Nesselrodt) (1885-1969) Miller, a farming couple. He married in April 1937 in Mt. Jackson. His bride was 16-year old Irene Pauline Spitler. She was the daughter of Mathias C. (1882-1949) and Mamie May (Whitmer) (1904-1983) Spitler. At that time, George was 21 years old and farmed in Jerome, probably on his father’s farm. When he registered for the WWII draft, he worked for William B. Clark at Bird Haven Farm near Basye, Virginia. The wood-working factory stood on land owned by Mr. Clark and provided many local residents with income during the years it operated. George served in the U.S. Army and by 1950, he had returned to the area. The census found both George and his wife, Irene, living in the Ashby District. Both were employed at a wood-crafting factory, probably Bird Haven Farm. The couple had two daughters together: Sandra (Miller) Rinker and Betty Ann (Miller) Meadors. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
