Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Samuel was born and raised in Lexington, Virginia, the son of Clayton Eppes Williams (1890-1968) and Willie Joe (Tompkins) (1889-1965) Williams. His father was the Dean of Washington and Lee University’s School of Law. After graduating from Lexington High School, Samuel’s college studies at Washington and Lee were interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. Samuel enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served with the 15th Air Force, known as the Black Panthers. He was based in Italy as a B-24 bomber pilot. After the war, he married Andree Louise (Wood) (1924-2013) in 1944, and moved to Baltimore a few years later. There, he started a contracting business that built homes. He also attended night school earning his bachelor’s degree from John Hopkins University and a master’s degree in education from Towson State College. Samuel got out of the building business and went to work as an educator at the St. Paul’s School for Boys in Baltimore County, in 1957. He stayed for 28 years before retiring in 1985. Over the course of his time there, he served as assistant headmaster, head of the Upper School and chairman of the math department. He was head guidance counselor when he retired. He and his wife, also a teacher, spent many years living in Bethany Beach after Samuel retired. His wife, Andree Louise (Wood) Williams, was originally from Fort Thomas, Kentucky. They had three children together: S. Clayton Williams, Jr., Susan (Williams) Copper, and Andree (Williams) Wright. Samuel was born and raised in Lexington, Virginia, the son of Clayton Eppes Williams (1890-1968) and Willie Joe (Tompkins) (1889-1965) Williams. His father was the Dean of Washington and Lee University’s School of Law. After graduating from Lexington High School, Samuel’s college studies at Washington and Lee were interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. Samuel enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served with the 15th Air Force, known as the Black Panthers. He was based in Italy as a B-24 bomber pilot. After the war, he married Andree Louise (Wood) (1924-2013) in 1944, and moved to Baltimore a few years later. There, he started a contracting business that built homes. He also attended night school earning his bachelor’s degree from John Hopkins University and a master’s degree in education from Towson State College. Samuel got out of the building business and went to work as an educator at the St. Paul’s School for Boys in Baltimore County, in 1957. He stayed for 28 years before retiring in 1985. Over the course of his time there, he served as assistant headmaster, head of the Upper School and chairman of the math department. He was head guidance counselor when he retired. He and his wife, also a teacher, spent many years living in Bethany Beach after Samuel retired. His wife, Andree Louise (Wood) Williams, was originally from Fort Thomas, Kentucky. They had three children together: S. Clayton Williams, Jr., Susan (Williams) Copper, and Andree (Williams) Wright. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Golladay and Jane (Golladay) Fitzwater Description An account of the resource Siblings William D. Golladay and sister, Regina Jane (Golladay) Fitzwater, are posed together. They are wearing matching sweaters and a couple of toys are beside them. Their parents were Ernest Earl and Anna Kline (Roller) Golladay. They grew up in Woodstock. Jane was a teacher in Woodstock when she married her first husband, Marion Swisher Swartz, in 1947. The couple raised four daughters together before he died. After he died, she married again to Coolidge Monroe Marshall Fitzwater (1923-2011). William D. Golladay served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was with the 46th Infantry Battalion and 5th Armored Division when he died from wounds received in combat near the Rhine River in Germany. He is buried in the American Cemetery in the Netherlands. PFC Golladay is a Purple Heart recipient.
