This photograph was made about the time she married. Born in Mount Jackson, May was the fourth child born to John Edward and Virginia Alice (Beahm) Wymer. The Wymer family moved to Strasburg when she was a child. In 1930, she lived on C Street and by 1940, she lived on West King Street with her parents and a 1-year old son, Daniel. In 1941, she married Joseph William Preston Himelright (1920-1994). He was born in Frederick County but lived in Strasburg. His parents were Charles Oliver and Vernie May (Sherman) Himelright. When May and Joseph married, he worked at a lime kiln. His employer was the S.E. Stickley National Gypsum Company. May’s husband served as a Private in the U.S. Army during WWII. May and her husband raised their children in Strasburg. The 1950 census found the family at 316 B Street where her husband worked as a mixer at the Viscose plant (later called Avtex Fibers). In 1950, the four children listed were: Danny L. Wymer (born 1939), Linda F. Himelright (born ca 1943), William E. Himelright (born ca 1947), and Charles D. Himelright (born September 1949). Both May and her husband are buried together in Riverview Cemetery in Strasburg. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Olive, Ray was a 1941 graduate of MMA and a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a Lieutenant during World War II. After his time in the service he worked for the Strasburg Post Office and retired as Superintendent of Postal Operations. He is buried with his first wife, Daisy Elizabeth (Smith) Kern (1920-1983) in Strasburg. His second wife was Maxine McDonald.
