This photograph was taken after she, her mother, and siblings had moved back to Strasburg. By 1940, the census found them living on Orchard Street with Ruth's grandparents. In November 1947, Ruth married 22-year old Virgil Hortense Gochenour, a sheet metal worker living in Toms Brook. Virgil was born in Hardy County, West Virginia, the son of Russell Lowell Gochenour and Ollie Estelle Clark. When she died, Ruth was employed as a worker in a clothing factory. Her husband survived her. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Ruth grew up in Fort Valley and was the daughter of Clarence Andrew (1889-1964) and Zeta Ruth (Golliday) (1897-1962) Coverston. Her husband was Nathan Harold Corman (1919-2005), who she married in 1949. He had served in the 324th Bomb Squadron of the 91st Bomb Group with the Eighth U.S. Air Force during WWII and was based north of London. The couple had two sons, John Nathan "Jack" Corman of Fort Valley (1951-2021) and Thomas Howard Corman (1958-1988). Both Ruth and her husband died in Fort Valley. John Landon Dirting was the son of Perry William (1871-1947) and Cora Alice (Barton) (1870-1928) Dirting, of Edinburg. He was working as a “Baggageman” for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company out of Pittsburgh when he registered for the WWI draft in May 1917. He served in France during WWI, as a Private with Company C of the 323rd Infantry. He entered the Army as a truck driver but became a signalman during his service. After the war, he returned to Shenandoah County and lived with his parents. The 1920 census found him teaching in a public school. By 1921, he had become a Federal Prohibition Agent working for the IRS. He stayed with that career until he retired. He married Irene E. Ashenfelter (1895-1981) in June 1948, when he was in his fifties. By then, he had retired from Federal service and was farming. Irene was the daughter of George David and Metta Oris (Hite) Ashenfelter. She, too, was in her fifties when she married.
