The words reference the marriage of a German Missionary couple Eva Margagre Dahengerin and Friederict Hengerer. The communion set belonged to Peter Muhlenberg, a Revolutionary War era Lutheran/Anglican minister in Woodstock, Virginia. Following his departure from the area, the set was owned by Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock until it was stolen from the church in the 1970s. It has not been recovered. The cloth is hanging in a frame at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. Ralph was the oldest child of Lawrence (1887-1948) and Monnie Myrtle (Miley) (1891-1989) Hottle. His father was a merchant in Toms Brook. He attended Roanoke College where his picture appeared in the 1937 and 1938 yearbooks. When he registered for the WWII draft in 1940, he lived in North Carolina and his employer was the “Public Service Co. of N.C.” His father was listed as his emergency contact. The record described him as being 5’11” tall and 145 pounds. Ralph enlisted in the Army in January 1942. Ralph married Martha Lee (Baldwin) (1919-1978) just after the war, in February 1946. She lived in Maurertown, the daughter of Warren and Annie (Borden) Baldwin. The 1950 census found the couple living with Ralph’s widowed mother on the east side of Route 11 in Toms Brook. Ralph worked as a bank cashier and they had two young children, Roy Baldwin and Marilyn Kay. A third child, Ralph Miley, Jr., was born after the census was taken. Ralph and his wife moved to Winchester at some point. When Ralph died, their home was on S. Braddock Street and Ralph was a bookkeeper. He was buried in Toms Brook. The shoulder patch on his uniform indicates he was part of the Glider Infantry during WWII. Byron was the youngest of seven children born to Glenn William Rudy (1876-1927) and his second wife, Betty Catherine (Heltzel) Rudy (1884-1964). His father died when Byron was only three years old. In the 1930 census, his mother was widowed and lived on Muhlenberg Street in Woodstock with all her children. When he registered for the WWII draft in June 1942, Byron lived in Baltimore and worked for the Glenn L. Martin Company in Middle River, Maryland. His mother was his emergency contact and the card described him as being 5’11” tall and 165 pounds. He married a little over a year later to Anna Rose (King) (1926- ). She was born in South Bend, Indiana, to Archie Russel and Pearl (Mauck) King. When they married, Anna’s family lived in Woodstock and Byron worked as a truck driver there. Byron enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after he married. He served from November 1943 to July 1945. He was wounded by artillery shell fragments in February 1945, and spent time recovering in a convalescent hospital before being discharged. The couple had three children together over the years: Diane Marie, Dennis King, and Donna Sue Rudy. After the war, the family lived for many years in Front Royal where Byron worked as a mechanic for a rayon manufacturer (later known as Avtex Fibers). Byron and Anna’s marriage ended when they divorced in 1987. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. This building stands on W. Court Street in Woodstock, Virginia. It was constructed sometime before 1899 and has housed various businesses including a bicycle shop, harness shop, and service station. Between 1930 and 1940 it was purchased by the Town of Woodstock and used as their municipal building through the 1960s when it was converted into the Woodstock Museum. The 1909 Sanborn Map of Woodstock lists this structure as a harness shop and the 1930 map lists it as a vacant structure.
