Her parents were John Jackson (1834-1910) and Elizabeth Ann (Fry) (1847-1898) Long. Her father was a carpenter at the time of her birth. She married Levi Edward Coffman (1868-1931), a farmer, in 1896. He was the son of Levi A. and Barbara E (Long) Coffman, a farming couple. Fannie and Edward stayed in the Ashby District (Conicville) and farmed. They had at least seven children together although two of them died as young children. Both Fannie and her husband are buried together in Hamburg. Flora was born in Maurertown, the daughter of Levi and Susie (Wakeman) Gochenour. She was one of nine children. She married Harold Coffman (1916-1995) in 1938. While he served in the Civilian Public Service (CPS) during WWII, Flora lived in the Valley and raised their daughter, Phyllis Mae. After his CPS service, they moved to the Washington, DC, area where they lived for thirty years. During that time, they had two more children, Janet Sue and Benjamin Walter Coffman. After they retired, they moved back to the Shenandoah Valley where they spent much of the rest of their lives in the New Market area. From the Saumsville area, Gilbert was the only child born to Philip Ray (1895-1952) and Stella (Richman) (1897-1922) Coffman. His mother died soon after he was born. Gilbert went to live with his mother’s sister, Ida B. (Richman) Gochenour and her husband, Charles “Charley” W. Gochenour. Gilbert’s father re-married and had additional children with his second wife. In the 1930 and 1940 censuses, Gilbert lived with his aunt and uncle on Saumsville Road east of Maurertown. Both Gilbert and his uncle worked as carpenters in 1940. In February 1942, Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He may have started out in the reserves. He served during WWII until his discharge in 1945. His gravestone notes his rank was Staff Sergeant. After the war, the 1950 census found him living in Arlington, Virginia. By then he was married to Neta M. (Racey) Coffman and they had a son, Steven, who was a year old. Gilbert worked as a reception clerk for the Red Cross. Eventually, Gilbert and his wife, Neta, moved back to Maurertown. He is buried in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock. Flora was born in Maurertown, the daughter of Levi and Susie (Wakeman) Gochenour and the last surviving of their nine children. She married Harold Coffman in 1938. While he served in the CPS, Flora lived in the Valley and raised their daughter, Phyllis Mae. After his CPS service, they moved to the Washington, DC, area where they lived for thirty years. During that time, they had two more children, Janet Sue and Benjamin Walter. After they retired, they returned to the New Market area of the Shenandoah Valley where they spent much of the rest of their lives.
