Title A name given to the resource Jacob Ryman Subject The topic of the resource Ryman, Jacob Homer (1877-1923) Description An account of the resource A cabinet card photograph of Jacob Ryman. The photograph was produced by Leedham of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Jacob Ryman was born September 10, 1877 in the St. Luke Community of Shenandoah County. On December 23, 1903 he married Rose Riffey also of St. Luke. At the time he is listed as a farmer. By 1917 he is living in Ellwood City, Lawrence Pennsylvania where he is working as a "Hammer Driver" at the Steel Car Forge Company. His WWI draft registration card noted he had a finger on his left hand amputated at the knuckle. Jacob was still working at the forge in 1920, but he passed away on January 27, 1923 of pneumonia. His profession was given as "Ice Dealer." He is buried at Saint Luke Lutheran Church in Saint Luke, Virginia alongside his wife who died in 1962. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. A few years after her husband died, in 1976, Joycie married Paul William Wilkins (1910-1995). He was the son of William Isaac and Esta Holler Wilkins. Joycie and Paul lived in Woodstock. Mary Anna Webster was born in Zepp to Floyd Carson and Valley Maude (Plauger) Webster, a farming couple. Mary had at least six siblings growing up. She married Ernest Calvin Ryman (1924-1999) in February 1946 in Woodstock. He was in the U.S. Army at the time. His parents were Otis L. and Mary Ellen (Tewalt) Ryman, from Woodstock. In the 1950 census, Mary and Ernest lived and farmed in the Johnston District of the county. They had two young children, Floyd C. and Mary J. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. John was a lifelong Woodstock area farmer and member of Valley Pike Church of the Brethren. His parents were Edward Andrew (1891-1978) and Sudie Frances (Hoffman) (1891-1965) Ryman. John registered for the WWII draft at the town hall in Woodstock where he reported that he was single and lived on his family’s farm. At that time, he was described as being 5’8” tall and 140 pounds. He married in August 1951, when he was in his early thirties. His bride was Dorothy Elizabeth Coleman, born in Summit Point, West Virginia. She was the 19-year old daughter of Daniel Alexander and Nellie Catherine (Bauserman) Coleman. When she married, she lived in Woodstock. The couple spent 52 years together and had a daughter, Shirley (Ryman) French.
