This photograph was taken in 1959 when he was Chief of the Woodstock Fire Department and utilized in department advertising. Danny was born in Woodstock, the son of Lester Lee Hottel and Anna Florence (Snyder) Hottel. In 1947, he married Virginia Elizabeth Spiker. Daniel went to work at the age of 9 and worked for many places in his youth including "Hottel's Trucking" (a homemade enclosed wagon that he used to haul ice & coal for local residents), the A&P Grocery Store, Community Theatre, Dellinger Funeral Home, Boyer Grocery Company, and Peer & Brill Motors. However, he found his true calling when he went to work for Shenandoah's Pride Dairy, becoming the community's milkman for over 37 years until his retirement in 1991. After "retirement" he went to work for Muhlenberg Ford-Mercury and was the Town of Woodstock's Hydrant Technician for 20 years. In addition, he was a member of the Woodstock Fire Department. Joining in 1942, he served that volunteer organization for 78 years and held every position in the department, including that of Fire Chief. When he died, he left behind a son, Philip D. Hottel. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. On the left is Charlotte Marie (Funk) Chillini. On the right, is her husband, Miguel "Mike" Chellini. Mike was originally from Venezuela and came to Woodstock to attend Massanutten Military Academy (MMA). He met Charlotte Funk, a lifelong Woodstock resident while at MMA. The couple married and raised their children in Woodstock. Mike worked as a Spanish teacher at Central High School for many years. During their years together, the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper reported on several of their family’s milestones including a visit from Mike’s relatives from Venezuela, the birth of their son, Michael, and a large 50th wedding anniversary party held at their home for Charlotte’s grandparents. Mike and Charlotte had two sons, Michael III, and Richardo Anthony Chellini. Unfortunately, Richardo died unexpectedly when he was just 18 years old.
