Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Title A name given to the resource Wanda Oswalt Frazier Subject The topic of the resource Frazier, Wanda Oswalt (1930-2008) Women-Virginia-Shenandoah County Woodstock (Va) Description An account of the resource Photograph of Wanda Oswalt Frazier. Published in the Shenandoah Herald newspaper on October 2 1969 as part of their "Country Kitchens" series. Wanda was born June 18 1930 in Lawton Oklahoma to Cassie D. Stamper and Malcom Oswalt. She married Woodstock native Stanley Frazier while he was stationed at Fort Sill. In 1963 she moved to Woodstock when her husband was transferred to the local Leggett's Store. She went to work for Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, the hospital campaign, and the county school board. Eventually she became a partner in opening the "Sue-Wan" Beauty Shop in the Woodstock Shopping Center and opened the Woodstock Hallmark Store in 1969. Outside of her businesses, Wanda was a mother to three boys, a member and Treasurer of the 1st Baptist Church, and a member of the Massanutten Garden Club. She died on December 4, 2008 in North Carolina. Title A name given to the resource War Declared- M&M Market Advertisment Subject The topic of the resource World War, 1939-1945 Shenandoah County (Va) M & M Market (Front Royal Va) Description An account of the resource Three days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, this advertisement appeared in the Northern Virginia Daily. It notes that war had been declared before Christmas but encourages individuals to still buy while prices were low. This advertisment highlights the fact that despite the attack on Pearl Harbor life as normal continued for many in the Shenandoah Valley for many months. Most goods were still available without restrictions, Christmas sales were still on, and the draft was still operating at its peace time level. Individuals knew rationing and other controls would soon be implemented but for now they were determined to continue with life as they knew it. Even the front page news articles had changed little. For months the headlines had been dominated by war news from around the world and the United State's military buildup. The only major change was the reports described the involvement of US troops in combat instead of those from other countries. While things would change as the war progressed, the weeks immediately after Pearl Harbor in Shenandoah County were much more like the years of peace preceding them than the war years to follow.
