Wilmetta was the daughter of Luther Monroe (1854-1938) and Sarah Catherine (Hammon) (1860-1937) Eastep. Her father was a blacksmith. Her husband was Walter William Bly (1878-1932), born in Frederick County, the son of Daniel Bly (1849-1909) and Harriett Elizabeth (Orndorff) (1855-1931) Bly. She married him in December 1902. Wilmetta and Walter had four children over the course of their years together. They were: Alvin Arthur Bly (1908-1964), Sarah E. Bly, Walter I. Bly and Aden William Bly (1915-1970). The latter two appear to have been born at the same time, possibly twins, Both the 1920 and 1930 censuses find Wilmetta, her husband, and her children living on a farm in Fishers Hill near Strasburg. By 1940, Wilmetta was widowed but still there. Her daughter, 27-year old Sarah E., was the only one of her children still living with her. She remained on her farm in Fishers Hill until the end of her life. She and her husband are buried in Saint Stephens Cemetery in Strasburg Junction. Caskey is best remembered for his decades-long involvement with the school and as being one of the founders of the MMA Alumni Association. Caskey was born and grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His parents were William Rufus (1874-1969) and Dora (Matthaie) (1879-1969) Caskey. His father owned and operated a successful bakery (Caskey’s Bakery) in Martinsburg until it was sold in 1952. As a child, he attended football games with his parents at MMA. Later, he returned to Woodstock as a student and was a 1931 MMA graduate. He continued his education, graduating from West Virginia University in 1936. Later, he served in Maryland’s Army National Guard during WWII. He also operated Caskey Supply Company in Martinsburg for many years until he retired. He married Naomi J. (Hagen) (1915-1999) Caskey and the couple had two daughters: Jennifer Lynette (1954-2015) and Naomi Caskey. After his graduation from MMA, Caskey maintained contact with the school. He volunteered his time and energy to help start up the alumni association, later becoming its vice president. He was elected executive president of the MMA Alumni Association in 1975, a position he held for 22 years. In 1983, he was also elected to the Board of Trustees at MMA, representing alumni interests there. By 1989, the alumni association began paying him for his service. At the time of his death, he was the alumni director emeritus at MMA. He was known as a tireless worker so it seems paradoxical, perhaps, that he died while vacationing at Jekyll Island, Georgia. Cadets - Virginia - Woodstock Caskey, Wilson Rufus (1913-2004) Description An account of the resource Portrait photograph of MMA Cadet Wilson R. Caskey wearing his school’s uniform. Caskey is best remembered for his decades-long involvement with the school and as being one of the founders of the MMA Alumni Association. Caskey was born and grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His parents were William Rufus (1874-1969) and Dora (Matthaie) (1879-1969) Caskey. His father owned and operated a successful bakery (Caskey’s Bakery) in Martinsburg until it was sold in 1952. As a child, he attended football games with his parents at MMA. Later, he returned to Woodstock as a student and was a 1931 MMA graduate. He continued his education, graduating from West Virginia University in 1936. Later, he served in Maryland’s Army National Guard during WWII. He also operated Caskey Supply Company in Martinsburg for many years until he retired. He married Naomi J. (Hagen) (1915-1999) Caskey and the couple had two daughters: Jennifer Lynette (1954-2015) and Naomi Caskey. After his graduation from MMA, Caskey maintained contact with the school. He volunteered his time and energy to help start up the alumni association, later becoming its vice president. He was elected executive president of the MMA Alumni Association in 1975, a position he held for 22 years. In 1983, he was also elected to the Board of Trustees at MMA, representing alumni interests there. By 1989, the alumni association began paying him for his service. At the time of his death, he was the alumni director emeritus at MMA. He was known as a tireless worker so it seems paradoxical, perhaps, that he died while vacationing at Jekyll Island, Georgia. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
