The land for the current building was purchased in 1922. Construction was completed in 1931 at a cost of $52,000 dollars. Made of rough cut stone, the building is unique among the Woodstock Churches. The Woodstock Christian Church merged with the Fairview Christian Church west of Woodstock, in 1950. The church also cooperated closely with the Edinburg Christian Church and shared a minister with that congregation until 2002. In this photograph, the name of the pastor, "J. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Jackson. This building was originally the site of the Riverside Tea Room, a restaurant opened between 1920 and 1925 by Arline (Allen) Davis and backed by owners Ken and Frank Stoneburner. It closed in the early 1930's. In 1935, the site became "The Spot", a local dancing establishment where people could enjoy music, social opportunities, and a bottle brought from home. The Spot closed in 1949. The building burned in September 1950, just one day after it had re-opened as a manufacturing facility to make drape material. The building still stands between the river and Route 11 which has since been re-routed to the west of the site.. Colonel Benchoff was an influential headmaster of Massanutten Military Academy (MMA) in Woodstock from 1905-1955. He was the son of Loudon Francis and Martha Belle (Johnston) Benchoff. His first wife was Kathryn Leona Mahon who died in 1918. His second wife was Florence Conant. He had a son, Robert J. Benchoff and a daughter, Mrs. William (Rosalie) W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. (Wetzel) Shaver as a young woman holding the wings of a deceased owl in front of her. Ruth was the daughter of William Luther and Mary Ellen (Gochenour) Wetzel. They lived on a farm just outside of Woodstock on property that is now owned by the town. Her first husband was James Berlin George. The couple had a son together but that marriage did not last. Her second husband, also divorced, was Russell Edwin Shaver, a 45-year old service station attendant originally from West Virginia. They married in 1960 in Woodstock. Ruth is remembered for having owned and operated the Stonewall Terrace Gift Shop and opened the R and R Trading Post, a family restaurant, gift shop and gas station. She was also partners with Dick and Elaine Strawderman in the Double S Catering Service for many years. After she retired, she worked in the cafeteria at Dunham Bush and later was a demo representative at Costco. She is buried in Alonzaville, Shenandoah County.
