Ryan Subject The topic of the resource Ryan, Isaac Franklin (1883-1971) Description An account of the resource Photograph of Isaac Franklin Ryan as a young man. He was the son of Edward and Lydia Frances (Walters) Ryan. He married Blanche R. (Beedle) Ryan in 1906. Isaac worked as a laborer in 1910 and when he registered for the WWI draft in 1918, he was a fireman for the railroad in Brunswick, Maryland, while his wife, lived at their home in Mt. Jackson. By 1920, Isaac was a shipbuilder in a shipyard and Blanche was caring for three sons: Freeman Lester (1906-1980), Floyd Elmer (1909-1949) and Harry W. (1916-1960). They lived on a farm in the Ashby District. His wife's mental health deteriorated sometime after 1920. She was institutionalized in Staunton for more than 30 years before she died. Isaac continued to work. He lived in Washington D.C. in 1942, when he registered for the WWII draft. At that time, he was working for B&O railroad. He lived in Timberville at the end of his life and was a retired railroad worker when he died. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
