From the Saumsville area, Gilbert was the only child born to Philip Ray (1895-1952) and Stella (Richman) (1897-1922) Coffman. His mother died soon after he was born. Gilbert went to live with his mother’s sister, Ida B. (Richman) Gochenour and her husband, Charles “Charley” W. Gochenour. Gilbert’s father re-married and had additional children with his second wife. In the 1930 and 1940 censuses, Gilbert lived with his aunt and uncle on Saumsville Road east of Maurertown. Both Gilbert and his uncle worked as carpenters in 1940. In February 1942, Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He may have started out in the reserves. He served during WWII until his discharge in 1945. His gravestone notes his rank was Staff Sergeant. After the war, the 1950 census found him living in Arlington, Virginia. By then he was married to Neta M. (Racey) Coffman and they had a son, Steven, who was a year old. Gilbert worked as a reception clerk for the Red Cross. Eventually, Gilbert and his wife, Neta, moved back to Maurertown. He is buried in Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock. Pete was a naturalized citizen born in Greece. He was a partner in, and later co-owner of the New York Restaurant in Woodstock, Virginia, from 1922 until his death in 1956. Pete was the son of Angelo Blentson and immigrated in 1907. The 1930 census found him living on Main Street in Woodstock with four other Greek men who were all working as waiters in a restaurant. Pete married Rena P. Pappas (1900-1973) in 1931, and by 1950, the census found the couple still on Main Street and raising two children, Angelo (19 years old) and Helen (18 years old). After he died, his son, Angelo, opened the Blue Star Diner on the southern end of town. That establishment was later moved to Newport News by the family where it continued to exist for many additional years. The building that housed the New York Restaurant was eventually torn down to make room for the current Circuit Court building in Woodstock. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Billy and Betty were two of the many children born to John Melvin (1894-1955) and Rosa Elizabeth (Grimm) (1894-1979). The family was from the St. Luke area of the Shenandoah County. Billy and Betty’s father farmed and was also a veterinarian. Billy attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. and became a pharmacist. There are many short mentions of him in Northern Virginia Daily social column articles between 1946 and 1951 as he went back and forth from school to visit his parents. He married Sandra Elizabeth Gray at the age of 34. She was born in Washington D.C. and worked as a bookkeeper when she married. Her parents were Frank M. and Elizabeth (Hutchins) Gray. The couple settled in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in their later years. In the 1950 census, Betty Jean Kipps was the only child still living on the farm with her parents. Her first husband was named "Saxton". In 1961, she married Alan Price, a salesman born in Moline, Illinois, and living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His parents were David and Helen Clara (Tappendorf) Price. Betty and Alan settled in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Juanita never married. She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1953 and later went to work for Aileen Inc., where she stayed for 31 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Woodstock Christian Church and attended St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Woodstock. Phyllis married Lt. Gerald Eugene Harbison (1937-1989) in Mississippi in 1957. He was a U.S. Marine Corps officer stationed at the Whiting Naval Air Base in Pensacola, Florida, at the time of the wedding. The couple had three daughters and a son together, but divorced in 1972. Sometime after that, Phyllis returned to Woodstock and worked as a cook in a nursing home when she died. Both sisters are buried together in Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Galen and Garland were the sons of John Hepner (1899-1966) and Mary Brooks (Hambleton) (1903-1996) Dellinger, a farming family from Jerome (some records say Bird Haven). Galen graduated from Triplett High School. He volunteered for the military in 1943 and was assigned to the U.S. Marines. He was trained at Parris Island, South Carolina, before being sent to the Pacific theater where his rank was Private First Class. After the war, he returned home and continued his education. He graduated from Shenandoah Business School, then attended Bridgewater College. He was working part-time as a bookkeeper and going to school when he married in 1949. He chose his father to be his best man. His bride was Virginia Catherine Wilkins, from Mount Jackson. Her parents were Albert Lee and Hazel Bertha (Helsley) Wilkins. Virginia had also graduated from Triplett High School. After, she earned a degree from Madison College, taught for two years in the Maryland schools, as well as a summer session at Shenandoah College in Dayton. When she married, she was about to start a new teaching job at the Mt. Clifton school, west of Mount Jackson. The couple had at least one son, Dennis Scott Dellinger. Garland Burdette Dellinger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served until 1961. While on active duty, he married Mildred Marie Hines (1936 - ), from Liberty Furnace. She was still in high school when their wedding took place in early 1955. In June 1955, the Northern Virginia Daily newspaper reported he was home from Lockbourne Air Base in Columbus, Ohio, for several days to visit and attend his wife’s graduation ceremony from Edinburg High School.
