Peggy Gene (Sousa) Carpenter was born in Woodstock Virginia to parents Felix Luis Sousa (1896-1988) and Mildred (Ramey) Sousa (1907-2001). She lived in Staunton for a time when she was a girl and graduated from that city’s Robert E. Lee High School in 1949. After high school, Peggy moved to Winchester and attended nursing school before working at Winchester Memorial Hospital. In the 1950 census she lived in the hospital’s nurses’ boarding house. In February 1951, she married John Andrew Anderson Jr. of Winchester. They had a daughter together, Barbara (Anderson) Funk, but they divorced in 1970. At that time Peggy was working at a surgical clinic in Winchester and living in that city. After her divorce, Peggy returned to Woodstock. In 1973 she married Frank Strother Carpenter, Jr. and remained married until his death in 1994. Peggy died in 2021 and is buried with Frank in Berryville Virginia. Harold Schefftt died in an automobile accident on Route 11 just north of Strasburg when he was only twenty years old, leaving behind a wife, Barbara (Hottle) Schefft, and parents, Glenn Collis and Magdalene (Ramey) Schefft. At the time of his death, Harold lived in Woodstock and was an auto mechanic at Grubbs Chevrolet. She was the daughter of Edward Franklin and Helen Irene (Bauserman) Sibert. When they married, Gary worked as a “spreader” for the Aileen Corporation while Mary Catherine was a “knitter”. By the time Gary died, he was a “Product Development Engineer” for a textile company. Lanny Harold Bauserman was a graduate of Strasburg High School. He married Wanda Jean (Holler) (1943-2014) in 1963. They had two daughters together, Lisa and April. Lanny worked at Safeway for 32 years before he retired. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. Like her husband, she was a also devoted and active member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, west of New Market, where she served as organist for almost 30 years, taught the Adult Sunday School class, and was a life member of the Lutheran Church Women. She was a former member of the New Market High School Alumni Association. She retired after 21 years as a teacher's assistant in Shenandoah County Public Schools.
