Bernard was born to Charles Monroe (1864-1937) and Annie Maria (Jones) (1864-1930) Getz. His family lived and farmed near “Moores Store”, Virginia. In 1930, Bernard worked as an electrician and lived in the Lee District with his widowed father, sisters, and two teenaged nephews. Soon after, Bernard married Katharine Frances (Sowers) (1896-1959) Getz. Her parents were Clayton Kile (1865-1939) and Laura (Bushong) (1866-1948) Sowers. In 1940, the census found the couple with two sons, Gene Kile Getz (1932-1982) and Grayson Sowers Getz (1935- ). The family lived on Route 11 in the Ashby District of Shenandoah County and Bernard was still an electrician. When he registered for the WWII draft, Bernard lived with his wife in Mount Jackson where he was “self-employed”. The draft card noted he had a “defective arm and hand”. He was described as being 5’11” tall and 200 pounds. Both Bernard and his wife are buried in Forestville. Fry, was born. Helen married Paul Henry Miller (1908-1967). They had a son together, Jerry Paul Miller (1951-2015), and they remained in the Edinburg area all their lives. A short biography is included there that, in part, says this: "Called "Turn" by her family, Mary got her nickname from the popular and flamboyant General Turner Ashby, Stonewall Jackson's most important Calvary commander during the 1862 "Valley Campaign". In this image, he is wearing the MMA basketball team uniform. He later returned to the Academy and is remembered for having served on the faculty there as a coach for the academy's swim and football teams from 1928-1942. Les Fouts was born in Chicago and grew up in South Haven, Van Buren County, Michigan. In 1910, he was the oldest of five children born to Charles O. (1870-1941) and Louise C. (Mellondorf) (1874-1932) Fouts. His father was a barber. He went to L.C. Mohr High School in South Haven, Michigan, for two years. Next, Les attended Massanutten Academy from 1922 to 1924. During the summer of 1923, Les married a girl from his hometown high school in Michigan, Mary Meader. At the time, Les’ occupation was “student”. Mary was a year behind him in school and they married in neighboring Berrien County. This marriage did not last. Les married Bertha Ely (1909-1993) in Lake County, Indiana, in June 1928. She was born in Michigan to Peter Franklyn (1877-1927) and Phebe Elvira (Woodruff) (1885-1952) Ely. Les and Bertha were married more than 50 years before Les died. Both the 1930 and 1940 censuses found the family living in Woodstock where Les worked at Massanutten Academy as an athletic coach and instructor. He and Bertha had two children, Lois and Leslie J. Fouts, Jr. Both of their children were born in Michigan. The family later moved to Georgia where, by 1950, Les worked as a teacher and coach for the private school, Woodward Academy, in Atlanta. His wife had a part-time job managing a book store. When Les died many years later, he was a retired football and swimming coach for Woodward Academy. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate. Carl was born in Woodstock, the son of Lawrence and Essie (Brill) Linaweaver. He had a brother, Robert L., and a sister, Louise. When he registered for the WWII draft, Carl worked at the Safeway Store in Front Royal but lived on Spring Street in Woodstock. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from December 1944 to July 1946. Sometime later, he married Lavine Estelle Gulick (1919-1982), a woman from West Virginia, who worked as a waitress in a restaurant.
