Anna was from Edinburg, the daughter of Milton Lloyd and Anna Mary (Fravle) Hite. Not long after she graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory and College (now called Shenandoah University) in Winchester with a degree in music, she moved to Hampton, Virginia, in 1944. Her husband was William Ralph Van Buren, Jr. from Hampton, Virginia. They married in 1951. At the time, he was a newspaper and radio executive. Anna was a band director. The couple raised two children: a daughter, Anna (Van Buren) McNider, and a son, William R. Van Buren, III. Her obituary appeared in the Daily Press Newspaper of Newport News, Virginia, The article, from May 1987, noted she was a "Peninsula cultural leader and a former director of the Daily Press Inc.". When she died, she was the vice chairman and former owner of the company that publishes The Daily Press and the Times Herald newspapers. The obituary also mentioned she was well-known in the Tidewater area for her support of fine arts and had been honored frequently for her community service. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
