The building is still there today. The original water-powered mill was built between 1797 and 1804, by the Spengler family, and was located close to the confluence of Cedar Spring Run and the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. It was a working flour mill for many years and known as the Spengler Mill. During the 1920's and 1930's, it was operated by the Artz family and known as the Artz Mill. It was converted into a well-known restaurant called "The Old Mill Tavern Restaurant" by the George Pappas family in 1938. The Old Mill was the place to go for dining, dancing and community celebrations under a number of different managers for nearly seventy years. The Old Mill property was purchased by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4186, in 2017. Spengler's Mill was located on the southern edge of Strasburg on Route 11 (or Stover Avenue as that stretch is named). The building is still there today. The water-powered mill was built between 1797 and 1804, by the Spengler family, and was located close to the confluence of Cedar Spring Run and the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. It was a working flour mill for many years. During the 1920's and 1930's, it was operated by the Artz family and known as the Artz Mill. It was converted into a well-known restaurant called "The Old Mill Tavern Restaurant" by the George Pappas family in 1938. The Old Mill was the place to go for dining, dancing and community celebrations under a number of different managers for nearly seventy years. The Old Mill property was purchased by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #4186, in 2017. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
