The image on the left is a copy of another Morrison Studio image and has been identified as William Wylie Middleton, Sr. In the 1911-1912 Massanutten Academy prospectus, this photograph is captioned "Winner of Field Day." William was born in The Plains, Fauquier County, to Clarence C. (1867-1936) and Mariah Jackson (Moffett) (1863-1946) Middleton. His first wife was Katherine "Kacky" Walker Allen (1893-1973). By 1930, the couple lived on High Street in Mt. Jackson where William worked as the Post Master. They had seven children living with them. Ten years later, the family lived on West Street and William managed a farm in the area. William's second wife was Ruby (Richard) Middleton (1902-1993). They married in 1946, after all the Middleton children had reached adulthood. The middle and right image in the photograph are unidentified. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
