Robert was born in Jerome, Shenandoah County, to Amos (1842-1909) and Sarah Elizabeth (Miller) Funkhouser. His father farmed. As a young man, Robert moved to Washington D.C. where he worked as a mail clerk for the railroads for many decades. In his WWII registration record, his place of employment was Union Station. He married in about 1908 to Mary Dorothy (Miller) Funkhouser (1886-1976), the daughter of Adam R. (1853-1922) and Catherine (Polk) (1852-1927) Miller. By 1940, he owned his home on 5th St. N.E., and had a son, Earl M. Both Robert and his wife died in Washington D.C., and are buried in West Falls Church, Fairfax County, Virginia. In the 1900 census, she and her parents lived at her mother’s family’s home in the Davis District of Shenandoah County. She married Tasker Frederick Shrum (1889 - 1970) in October, 1910, and by the 1920 census, the couple had two daughters: Dorothy Rebecca Shrum (born in 1913) and Ruth Virginia Shrum (born in 1919). Katie’s husband worked as a farmhand. He was the son of Joseph Alton (1853-1912) and Amanda Jane (Hollar) (1855-1933) Shrum. Katie lived in Toms Brook when she died. The family was listed there in the 1940 census as well. She was buried in Harrisville, located in the northern part of Shenandoah County. He was from Fort Valley, the son of John Jacob (1844-1923) and Ellen M. (Smith) (1849-1928) Burner. His wife was Nettie Mabel (Ritenour) Burner (1881-1932). He and his wife had several children including: Clara R, Thomas Theodore, Alfred Glenn, Edith May, Ruth Althea, Roy Earl, Esta Frances, Fannie Marie, Mary Ellen and Violet Elaine Burner. When he registered for the WWI draft in 1918, he was a farmer in the Carmel area of Fort Valley. Decades later in the 1950 census, he still lived and farmed in Fort Valley. By then, he was widowed and lived with his two of his children, Thomas and Violet. Title A name given to the resource Morrison Studio Collection Subject The topic of the resource Morrison, Hugh Jr. (1871-1950) Morrison, Louis Morrison, James Description An account of the resource In 1899 Hugh Morrison Jr. opened a photograph studio on W. Court Street in Woodstock after several years of working in the area as a travelling photographer. Between that time, and the time his grandson James Morrison closed the studio in 1988, the Morrison family captured thousands of portraits, landscapes, and buildings on film and glass negatives. In 1999 the Shenandoah County Historical Society acquired over 31,000 of these negatives from the estate of local collector Charles D. Bauserman. Volunteers from the historical society worked over the next several decades to house, number, and scan each image. This effort resulted in over two tons of Morrison plates and negatives being processed and digitized. This collection contains those digitized versions of these photographs. Through a partnership between the historical society and the Shenandoah County Library's Truban Archives access to a growing number of these images is available to the public. Current projections indicate the full collection will be available for viewing sometime in 2028. This collection does contain some images of a sexual and/or graphic nature that some viewers may find inappropriate.
